Feet and I ran a new game last night. Still learning the game and strategies. This time we found a farm outside of the town and ended up fortifying it. It had an attic, we set up the respawn sleeping bags and a slew of storage trunks up there. Feetwet set about trenching and spiking a moat around the house and I put up metal siding and upgraded holes in the walls with stone or plywood. Eventually we'll start mining and tunneling towards the lake from the basement. We left the Z's on "classic" slow speed, so they didn't run at night, but definitely still swarmed. Otherwise we'd have been totally overwhelmed pretty early on.
This thing is a lot of fun. Even without their night time super speed the zombies were causing us a lot of grief. Each day we build a little more but mining needs to increase in priority. So far it seems better to fight them at night with the attic as a fall back then let them run crazy all night tearin crap up.

With the hordes getting bigger every night, they would probably tear the house down if it was still wood and we hid out. I think I'm going to make gathering stone a priority. They turn quickly into stone blocks and they seem to last. That metal door sure didn't last long though. LOL
It would be cool to build outer walls to funnel them into one trench coming towards the door, with a big pit right at the end by the doorway. Fill it all with those trunk spikes we were talking about. Something to spend less time rebuilding and more time adding on. I should be on tonight, around 9CST if not before. If I'm on something else solo I can jump over. Or PD2...or MWO...
Ok, so the conveyer belt of pain worked out real nice last night. Combined with the 2 blk deep by 2 blk wide trunk tip pit with a 1 blk wall behind...our maintainance time was drastically decreased.
Anyway, I am thinking of expanding the conveyer of pain. My new idea is the bridge of woe. From the front door I want to build a stone bridge across the pit. Put a lip on it and line it with spikes at night. Moving our combat outside. The cross section would look like this: (might want to make the sides 3 blks high instead of 2)
Make stairs on the far end so we can access the bridge...and so can the Zs. Man the lip with clubs and 'do work'.
I am also thinking of tearing the roof off of the house above the attic, hauling dirt up there, figure out how to do a water source and plant a garden. I know how to do everything but the water source. I have seen people talk about using buckets but I have to go figure it out.

We could experiment with taking out more of the house to replace with stone too. Take the roof off and just consider it a 2 story house with all of that on top, extend the balcony more...even connect it to your bridge. 3 flights of stairs is too long anyway. Replace the supports in the house with stone or birch, replace the flooring with stone...half of the first floor is probably replaced already. The bridge sounds good. Long enough and we can let the spikes do the work, and just pick them up and replace at the end of the night. Might be good to orient the bridge and tunnel going the same way. We need more potassium nitrate, lead and iron and they're a little slow to come by.
So I learned how to make a crossbow. It just takes sticks and plant fiber(from beaten grass). Arrows are 1 stone 1 stick and 1 feather. This could be a good alternative to gunpowder so grab all the feathers you see.

One way to find out! Hope it's up in time for the game. If I'm online on something else, just let me know you guys are coming on and I'll start it up. What all were we working on?
-long bridge of death -mining slowly towards the river (comes before the lake) -party deck overlook -replace/reinforce original structure -pipe bomb pit/mass grave
We need to find out how to make the reinforced concrete etc. I wonder if that reinforced metal siding is the same stuff I put up around the base of the house? If so, we could work on plating the cobblestone around the front of that house where they started tunneling in. Maybe bolster the foundation by digging in 2 blocks deep in the dirt to replace with stone. Stone doesn't need crafting, easy to come by and shouldn't be too bad to maintain.
I have played (BY MYSELF!) build 6.0 and 7.0/7.1. The game has changed significantly.
The new furnace and crafting system is more robust than the earlier versions. Most items will now need materials and a mold in order to be made. ( )
The world in build 7 has moved from away a little from the block format from the earlier builds with the terrain smoothing update. No more jumping uphill. At first while digging and mining I was having an issue with this but now that I am used to it I like it. ( )
The new stealth system, while buggy, is a huge step forward. No longer do you have to bunker yourself in at night and pray for morning. If you are careful and quiet you can wonder the countryside and loot stuff even at night. But make enough noise and oh boy... ( )
There are now a crapton of zombies in the world. A CRAPTON. They also tend to spawn around you a little to much (dev's working this issue).
And a big plus for me, if there is a ton of stuff on the ground (ie logs after cutting down a tree) instead of having to pick them up individually...you hold 'e' and it scoops them all up. ( ) ( ) ( )
I am having fun playing this game but I can never get ahead as a single player. Just to much to do.
