Crazy lightning storm we had recently, sweltering here the last few days in the high 30's. Bring back the rain smile

one from when the storm had cleared.

The high 30's? I assume that's in Centigrade.

Only storm I've seen like that was in Germany years ago.

Damn Mace..you need to get out. Dime a dozen down here, plus we get hail, ice and decent cold winters, brilliant beautiful springs/autumns and a good couple of weeks of the best frazzing the sun can deliver in summer..as well as the normal summer when you can actually go outside without dying.

I didn't realise if I wasn't going to Australia or the US it was considered 'not getting out' lol

Beautiful photos.....and must have taken a lot of patience.
Lightning doesn't usually last very long, not around here.
You might not be giving him enough credit....I've tried to catch it, and it's not easy.

Is he thinking about getting into photography as a livelihood?
Might not be a bad idea.

Get him a good digital camera, if he doesn't have one already....see where it leads to.
Might be a good investment smile

Thanks for noticing Murphy smile I have a rather large collection of pics he has taken over the years and he doesseem to have a n eye for it. I have thought the same as you and i am going to make him a site where he can put his pics up and show him a few editing programs, see what he thinks.

cheers

Echo Murph's comment on the digital camera. Can't beat 'em with a stick.

Nice pics, lightning can be tough to get clearly.

There's a trick to it: lightning acts like a flash unit,
it will take its own picture. You just mount your camera
and take a series of time exposures. Set the duration based
on the approximate apparent strike rate (and adjust
aperture to your preference).

Actually, you can. Find a stick. Find a digital camera.

Let the beatings commence. The camera cannot stop you.

Personally, what irritates me about digital cameras is the DELAY. Press button...count to some random double-digit number...picture is taken! Meanwhile whatever you were trying to capture is gone or shifted position. frown

My cellphone and every digital camera from Olympus, Kodak, Sony, and others that I've ever owned all share that trait.

You haffta have a good one to get around that. I got an Olympus Pen 4/3 style camera. It uses a mechanical shutter of some sort, so when you poosh the button, the picture is taken. Detachable lenses, takes great photos, almost as well as a decent DSLR, but is easier to carry around.

I have an old 35mm Nikon SLR, but have trouble getting the film developed....and it costs a bundle.

Yeah, he needs a nice digital Nikon.
You can pick them up for MUCH cheaper than they were when they first came out.
One can do lots more with a few lenses....like a wide angle or nice telephoto.
I 'imagine' the digital ones are very detailed.....I've not had the opportunity.

Sometimes a little 'nudge', might take someone on a long ride......... wink
