Ok so I have setup the data cartridge and played around and added some EWS Programs. Now when sat it the cockpit, my CMS switch controls the ECM if pushed down and right and programs 1-4 if pushed up and 6 if pushed left. Does this mean if pushed up I will run any program from 1-4 (depending on what is selected on the countermeasures panel?) or does each push up cycle me through the programs?

A little confused.

Indeed, it will always engage the same program you have selected in the CMS panel over and over. That's why it's a good idea to have 1, 2, 3 or 4 programmed for say, low alt IR missiles, and 6 for high alt radar missiles. So you have both things at your fingertips.

Yep you have to manually change the program by turning the knob.

I leave Program 6 for my Oh #%&*$# situations where it dispenses both chaff and flares.

IIRC the real F-16 has another button near the throttle area that allows a third program to be dispensed along with CMS up/left. That'd be really useful - one for chaff, one for flares and one for both.

The slap switch is modeled in BMS as well.

You have access to three programs IIRC. One is what your CMDS knob is set to, one is program 6, and the other is program 5 via the slap switch.

Yeah, that's right and I've just been and sorted it out and know what does what now smile

Sorry for bumping this year old thread but I have a few questions concerning it.

1. Does depressing the CMS switch have a function in the R/L F-16 and what blocks are we talking about?
2. When Googling I found multiple Falcon 4/BMS related tutorials all confirming what is said here: UP: either 1 to 4, LEFT: 6, RIGHT: put to SEMI/put to idle, DOWN: consent in SEMI and AUTO modes. However, does it work exactly like this in R/L too? Do we have anything to back that up?
3. Does anybody have an idea how this applies to the A-10C as it has the AN/ALE-40 (by now the -47 IIRC) as well?

No function, regardless of block. I guess they designed the switch thinking on adding something and then when the software was done they couldn't think of any use for it.

Until recently we didn't, because it was classified. Currently, we do, in the form of what I understand is an F-16... mechanic? (maybe) with access to the real manuals. Don't remember exactly but I think it was the user Dee-Jay or Mav-jp over the BMS forums... hmmm... don't remember the name really.

1. I've never seen it in any F-16 but who knows in some dark mysterious top secret corner of R/L EW.
2. In USAF BLK50/52 yes. Not every F-16 is this way exactly but BMS models a specific block and yes with information.
3. No direct comparison. The ALE is only part of the whole system which can be configured many ways.
