I still play ROF quite often but I just don't find myself really discussing it too much since the game runs very nicely for me and I mostly play it in single player mode. I don't use any mods either.

Hard to say why. On the one hand, ROF is relatively mature. The last couple of patches have been refinements as opposed to massive enhancements, other than a few new planes.

There aren't lots of issues people are looking to have fixed, there aren't a long list of things people want to see added (just the same short list, and how often can that be talked about), and after all this time I think most other things have been said.

Is it the beginning of the end? Hard to say. Might just be the start of a quieter time.

It happens with all flight sims. I remember when IL-2 first came out how the IL-2 forum was bursting at the seams with countless numbers of posts on a daily basis. Naturally that died down after a few years.

My explanation: the game is running well and there's not much to complain about. wink

It is already open to modding and there are many mods that can be used to great effect.
If you are talking about FM's then it's an absolute no from me... leave that well alone or else it will be a can of worms.
Unlike WWII, a lot of the available material and records (which is relatively scant in comparison) is nowhere near as accurate. It will turn into a right Fred Karno's with all the different supposedly experts putting their slants and interpretations into it.

Completely agree Trooper. Unless someone has actually flown a WW1 biplane, why would one gamers views on the accuracy of the flight models be any more legit than someone else's?

It wouldn't be necessarily. That doesn't mean that one might not be more accurate based on sheer luck.

WOFF is the new kid on the block and will take a fair few single player only simmers.

I think ROF needs to now look at the environment and create more of dynamic battlefield in No Mans Land and leave the planes for abit. Though they can't really do that as the money comes from new planes. I know if they improved the atmosphere of the sim I'd go back to it more often and purchase more planes. It's good for a quick dogfight but doesn't drag me in for long stints of playing like WOFF and previously OFF does due to it's immersive atmosphere \world and feeling of epic warfare going on all around and the campaign.

If I was a multiplayer only simmer ROF is the one though.

Actually, there are a few Rise of Flight pilots with stick time in real WW1 scouts. Womenfly2 has posted a few times about the Dr1 slip turn thing and just gave up in frustration when sim pilots insisted that Rise of Flight has it more "right" than her experience in the real thing. yep

I would gladly try out someone's mod for the Nieuport 28. It couldn't be worse than the one we have right now.

Strange but I take more or less the opposite view. What RoF needs most is a few CAREFULLY-SELECTED new planes, to fill the most glaring gaps in the planeset - a BE2c, a Rumpler CI and something like a Farman F40 would do that. These three would make careers in the Fokker Scourge era viable at last and indeed, would bring 1916 to life as well.

PWCG is delivering further and steady desirable improvements to the SP campaign experience.

There are calls for better AI in RoF, amidst a belief it has now fallen behind WOFF (it was always behind FE2, which isn't perfect either but has always had the sort of features now being reported in WOFF). Some modest improvements would likely be popular here, perhaps trickling down from BoS.

Anyway what's going on in No-Man's Land, if anything, is at the bottom of my list. There were not always battles happening anyway. Even when there were, while it would be nice to see barrages, waves of infantry advancing (briefly!) or tanks in action, it's much more important to me to optimise the experience in the air.

My feeling exactly. Early air war still has too many holes.

ROF has always had other forums, the 777 official one and now the Steam forum as well. For WOFF SimHQ is the official forum now irc.

Should have tried to start a RoF fan site and forum similar to M4T when RoF was released. Talk about something being dead from the get go...

In my case, at least, asking for fixes (even when some of us provide data that the model is wrong -- it isn't just what we "think" it should be and we all know from WOFF how pathetic the RoF AI is) has proven totally futile. I'm here and at the "official" RoF web site far less because if the devs are going to ignore us, why bother?

WOFF, even with its ancient graphics and easy-to-fly planes, is a breath of fresh air. Developers who fix things? Who knew? Amazing!

And I'm still building up stick time in my DCS Mustang. thumbsup

The devs have been busy, but I'm not sure I like some of the changes.

It seems like the flight models have been simplified from what they used to be. It feels less like a simulation and more like an arcade game. I liked it better when there was more of a difference in the way different planes handled.

Now when I fly a Camel it is just as easy to turn left as right. I haven't flown the Camel a lot because it was harder to fly, so I don't think that I have actually learned it's tricks and become a better Camel pilot.

Simplified Physics is a choice in the Options menu. Please let us have realistic flight models as the default and if we want to chose simplified flight models let us chose them in the Options menu.

Wizz, it's way too late for "I Want" lists. There's no one from 777 left to read them. They all moved to Stalingrad a year ago.

That said, I haven't noticed any changes in the FMs. Maybe you're just getting to be a better pilot? yep
