I hate it when people put a comma after a word and follow it with 'and', I see this all the time at work.

I hate it when people put a comma after a word and follow it with 'and', I see this all the time at work. If they put the comma after "and" it's completely incorrect! It has to come before! The Jedi Master

I hate it when people put a comma after a word and follow it with 'and', I see this all the time at work. The 'Oxford' comma Something I see quite a lot and find exceptionally jarring is putting 'cloths' where they mean 'clothes'. Sometimes repeatedly so it isn't just a typo. Not sure why I find it so annoying though.

Some of you are too darn picky! I don't worry about it too much, I do my best. I barely, and I mean BARELY squeaked by high school, and that was only because of my lovely tutor/wife. With the exception of a three month post-HS drafting class (which was mostly board drafting w/pencil, pen and ink), I'm self-educated, so I'll never have that educated polished way about myself (which includes spelling and grammar). I use a spell checker, but it's not 100% reliable.

It was started by the hip hop generation and has become accepted, but I hate. The incorrect use of the word, "disrespect." As in ,"He disrespected me!" It's, "He treated me with disrespect!" I find it annoying. And I know it's not a spelling error, but I also can't stand, "I could care less." It's "I COULDN'T care less."

Another good one that's very well used is 'disassemble'. It's not a word. The correct word is dismantle.

I still think it would be tougher to hoe a road though. Wheels

The other side of the coin is when people don't understand that there are times when referring to yourself as "me" is correct. "Would you like to come with my wife and I?" is wrong, it should be "with my wife and me."
Using "myself" or "yourself" where "me" or "you" should be used is another pet peeve of mine.

Oh btw, not to up-nazi the OP, but viola does not mean raped in French
FT
It does though. In pass simple : "Il viola toutes les rgles en vigueur" : He broke all applicable laws. But don't worry, English speakers trying to use French words get it wrong 90% of the time anyway "Without further a do", "without further ado" and such should be "without further adieu" (might be plural even, " adieux" as in "without any more unnecessary goodbyes", but then again that expression doesn't exist in French, so I guess mis-use is excusable in that case. I hate it when people put a comma after a word and follow it with 'and', I see this all the time at work. The 'Oxford' comma The Oxford comma is very useful for clarity in English. For example: We invited the strippers, JFK, and Stalin. We invited the strippers, JFK and Stalin. The second one makes it seem like JFK and Stalin are the strippers. As seen in the cartoon here.
