Okay, okay, I think I'm finally caving in. I always said I wasn't going to get a steering wheel and I've tried my best to stay out of racing sims, but I got GT6 and a PS3 for Christmas and it just wants to be played with a wheel.

I'm looking for a good racing wheel setup, maybe a Logitech G27 or similar. Anyone selling?

EDIT: no longer looking as I managed to get a G27!

Logitech G27 or the Thrustmaster T500 are the only 2 I'd choose from for the PS3/GT6. Past that, you'll have to rely on others experience for wheels they've tested. Just remember that to a certain extent, anything is better then a gamepad, so it's possible that anything would work for you. Expectation has a lot to do with it. If you've never used a higher quality wheel you're lucky in that you can use a really cheap wheel and be happy using it. Just do your research. Posting here you might have someone offer you up a nice deal on a higher quality wheel for cheap. =)

For reference, I've previously owned a Logitech MOMO wheel and used it to play rFactor 1 --- I guess I should've mentioned this earlier. So I do know that "anything is better than a gamepad"... however, this was about 6+ years ago so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to racing wheels and that is why I have not specifically stated what I am looking to buy.

I have used el-cheapo wheels in the past that used rubber bands or springs to provide resistance as the wheel was turned, but these are obviously not useful in any way.

Fanatec does work with GT5/6 but it is not native support in game, just G25 PC USB emulated mode.

Comparing both my Fanatec GT2 and my G27 with GT5/6, the native support for the G27 in GT5/6 makes the FFB feel more direct/detailed and less floaty compared to the Fanatec G25 emulation.

Also as an owner of both I've found replacement parts are easier to get for the G27 since it is a more popular wheel and lots of parts show up on ebay (replacement pedals, shifter etc).

Both are good wheels, just providing feedback as far as GT5/6 is concerned.

Ice,

When I played GT5 I used the Logitech Driving Force GT. It was actually made for GT5. This is what I would recommend for the following reasons. The feedback from the steering wheel was awesome. In a spin you could let go of the wheel and it would behave like a real steering wheel, spinning on its own. The buttons on the wheel are made for PS3 and the rotary wheel will allow you to change computer controlled settings like brake bias, etc. on the fly. Mine has been put away for about a year now (got back into Falcon 4AF and BMS thanks to your input) but am considering getting GT6 soon and after checking, it is compatible w/ GT6.

No longer looking. I did get a DFGT recommendation but managed to snag a 2nd-hand G27 for the price of a new DFGT, so that was a no-brainer.

The next step now is to see how long I last before going to the more hard-core racing SIMS and if I let go of BMS completely. biggrin

I'm using a Logi MOMO on my PS3 to play GT5. Have no idea about GT6.

That's what I thought Daz, but then again the brake does feel firm enough for me. "Next stop" for now is a custom racing pit so I can mount the pedals properly, then think about mods. biggrin

I would've thought the term was "inverted." But yes, that's it.

I was thinking of asking around for mount angles but I think this'll have to be a personal-preference thing. I wonder if you mounted each pedal level with all the others though or if you had to raise/lower any of them?

All pedals mounted level....but you will notice that the accelerator pedal sits a bit lower than the other 2 by default.

The mount angles will depend on the surface that you mount them onto and your body position/leg angle in order to push the pedal - I think if you asked the question you'd probably get a whole host of different answeres.......for example people who have racing pits will have the pedals almost vertical I'd imagine because the low position of the leg will mean it's almost a straight push along a horizontal plain. I'd say my pedal surfaces are approx 30 degrees, but I sit on a chair with normal desk height keyboard/wheel so the pedal movement is pushed in a diagonal movement with my heel on the floor if that makes sense.

Yeah, I'm planning to have a normal car ergonomics setup, so not quite so low as a racing setup, but not as high as an office setup.

I forget the right thread size, but it's on Logitech 's site. For easy mounting, especially if you might be moving the wheel, pedals or shifter every now and then, here's a good site for cheap knobs to use:
http://jwwinco.com/products/section8/index.html

About $1.35/ea, I got enough for mounting everything with these. Makes it no big deal to move around.

You're directing us all to a website so we can view various knobs? woot

Ooh sailor!

Hang on....let me get this straight. You went looking at various knobs and found some of the correct size. You then got them home and immediately mounted them?

I'm not sure I like where this conversation is going lol.
