Y'all should pick this up, on sale via Steam for $5. I've been playin' it since '06 and I still love it. Snow and I still play it online, but it would be really cool w/ more (SimHQ) players. If you've played CoH, it's basically the same game, just 40K...

Well as its Christmas, and I loved DOW. Downloading now. I will have to get to grips with the tech tree though.

I skipped DOW, but got DOWII and all of its expansions. Why was there never a DOWIII? I thought it would have been a natural progression of the W40K cash cow for Relic.

DoWII was good, not great. I much prefer Dark Crusade, even compared w/ the last XP Soul Storm.

I got DoWII because it played so much like CoH. Was DoWI more true to the 40K rules?

From what I understand, but I've never played the TT, so I'm not an expert...

Negative. Normal RTS style gameplay compared to actual WH40K rules. Which I didn't necessarily find a bad thing. The tabletop rules are there to allow for the abstraction of the game due to record keeping issues and playability. The PC takes care of all of that. It was a good solid fun RTS.

I had DOW2 Gold, grabbed DC now. Still new to the game and playing through the campaign for the first time.
Not too click-intensive so far, so I'm enjoying it. It does seem like COH now that I've played it. That's a good thing.

Just a reminder, you'll need all three (3) Dawn of War titles if you wanna unlock all available races in-game, Dark Crusade will only give you a limited selection.

Cranked up DC and didn't realize it was the first series, not DOW2. I'll have to mess with it a bit. Seems kind of like Total War with the map etc. In DOW2 I'm traveling some, but not so much a map to fight over. Or maybe I'm not far enough along.

Yup, I forgot about the limited race selection 'til it was too late. It's not a big deal though if you've got the complete collection, but I believe you'll need to install all three titles to unlock every race. Also, add the serial number(s) to Steam and download it through the steam client to jump online the easiest, it just makes everything easier...

For once my game collecting impulse (addiction) paid off, since I grabbed all the ones I didn't own anyhow that were on that awesome discount.

Always wanted to play this series and try to understand the W40k lore/universe.

My first 40k experience was Space Hulk (original), Dawn of War was the first 40k title that got me interested in the fiction, which is actually pretty solid...

Heh, I started with Space Crusade (Star Quest here in Italy) Table top game... Got into the grim stting immediately!

I played on with the miniature game, and videogames ended up as a natural follow up.
Also much less hassle, as you don't need to assemble and paint 300 miniatures...

That said, I've them all...
I'm absolutely horrendous at playing it but I'm totally willing to plat some MP.

We got THE email from comcast that we were approaching the 300GB cap this month, but it reset today.
I didn't get the Winter Assault expansion though.

I hate the Comcast cap, Steam and bundle sales and Neflix had me nearly going over the cap multiple times and the threat of a Comcast ban was the reason I moved to FIOS a couple of years ago...

For me Winter Assault was in there as part of "Dawn of War - Game of the Year Edition", it doesn't show up as a separate game on Steam but you can launch the .exe directly via the Seam file dir:
\SteamApps\common\Dawn of War Gold\W40kWA.exe

So you might want to check and see if you have it. I was even able to do the widescreen patch to the Winter Assault .exe same as to the W40k .exe and play both successfully.

Fix Full resolution models • Link

Open the local.ini file in the Dawn of War file folder.
Add the following line to the file:
Save and close the file.
(I went ahead and dropped in 1920 and 1080 for width/height)

Fix High Poly Models (non-Steam) • Link

Right-click on your shortcut for Dawn of War.
A menu will pop up, select the "properties" option.
Find the box that is labelled "target".
It should already say something like "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War\w40k.exe". Add -forcehighpoly after that line. If there are quotation marks present make sure to add it outside of those marks.
Click Apply/OK.

Yes, you can. Mine is steam.

well i did skip onestep. i dont have a hexeditor on my gaming pc. Just an additional precaution I take because I play vac games. May be silly but I don't want to run the risk.

Hmm...the only things I did was add fullres_teamcolour=1 to the local.ini file and add -forcehighpoly to the launcher in properties.
Sure you don't have a space before -forcehighpoly or something like that?

Did you guys see Magnum's post about Gamespy shutting down? He's got a list of games affected. Guess what's on the list.

I haven't looked at the MP portion of this game yet. Is there no direct IP hosting?
