So is this a mod or an actual paid add-on for the game?

It's a free mod.
I installed it last night and just did a couple fast quick battles (not sure if BMP is playable in the campaigns). I'm very hesitant to criticize someone's work that has made an effort to expand SABoW and of course has way more talent for this stuff then I can ever dream of. But that being said while this mod is definitely interesting it's not quite ready for prime-time, more like an alpha to be honest. Unless I got a pooched install there are a few viewable glitches, like sometimes floating crewmen (like their seat didn't render) and the view inside the BMP from certain crew positions has rectangle like areas where you can see right thru to the outside (overdone vision block maybe?). I should have taken some screenies but like I said it was just a few quick battles late last night. Other suspect areas might be the sighting scope for the ATGM's and for the BMP 73mm auto cannon as to me they looked like the same scope used by the T-62 in game. But I'm definitely no expert here so they maybe correct. My advise is to download it, try it and offer the modders some feedback. The way I see it is any new vehicle that can be added to SABoW, even if not 100% spot on is a plus for the game.
cheers

P.S. The BMP-1 73mm auto cannon has a very slow rate of fire/reload (not like SB Pro's BMP at all) Unless there's a fire rate selector switch I don't know about.

Depends how the gun is loaded in actual real world. AS the worlds first legit IFV it was far from ideal. The Auto loader on the thing could only use 1 type of ammo. Often times it was disabled or actually removed from the vehicle and only manually loaded by the gunner. This would allow the vehicle crew to pick what ammo for a given situation. Otherwise it would be all Frag or all Heat and that is it. I have never read what the real world ROF of that 73mm grom gun is. Seen it listed as fast as 10 rounds a minute. But from everything ELSE I have read it was in actual operation ALOT slower. If manually loaded.... WAY WAY slower. Probably also depends on elevation of the gun as well.....

I am GUESSING the default ROF reflects the vehicle set up to manually fire either sort of ammo. Still for the late 60's early 70's noone had a vehicle that packed that much firepower with that much mobility and could carry an infantry squad to boot. Even with a nerfed ROF with the auto loader missing was still damned dangerous to anything from m113's to m60 MBT's due to that at3 missile. That from videos reloads way to fast.

So the thing DOES have insides? Or is with the vision blocks are messed up. Granted i could never get those to work right. If set like a sight I could. But never if looking around the interior. If he figured that out.... I may return to sabow for a couple things I always could never get working.

Probably take a look next week sometime.

Hi FB,
Gotta make this quick as I'm getting ready for work, yes it does have an interior but of course not as good as the SABoW T-62 or M60 interior renderings. It's hard to explain, you really would have to see it yourself. As for the areas where you can see the outside from the inside of the vehicle I'm not sure if it's a problem with the vision ports or an model mesh problem, I'm sure one look at it and you will know wink

Thanks for that info on the BMP 73mm cannon as it does work exactly as you described in SABoW.
cheers
