A couple of shots from the (pre-alpha) version of the DayZ standalone.

I like the new interiors

Nice details

Water source

There's a lot of char customization now with the many new items/clothes

Time for a little rest...

...with something to read! Yep, there are now books in DayZ smile

Pretty

I like the new inventory system

The game's still in an early development stage, quite a few bugs and problems. Just what you'd expect from an alpha version.

Played for 45 minutes last night. Unfortunately it was night and I didn't get to see anything. I did finally find a backpack though, and while I crept around a town I got nervous I only saw one Z...how many was I missing?

Lots, I played about 4 hours and even walking through the woods I kept hearing them but never could find them. Finally I was attacked enough to make myself bleed and didnt figure out how to bandage myself until it was too late. Then I had to start over sans cargo pants, backpack and shovel.

Right now the Z population is very limited and they don't seem to pose much of a threat to the player. Saw less than 10 during a 3-hour romp through Chernarus. Their pathfinding has improved compared to the DayZ mod, but they're glitching through walls and feedback during close combat is...weak. Firearms are extremely rare, in about 5 hrs of gameplay I found 1 pistol and 1 M4. Both during the 1st 20 minutes with a new char, then nothing.

The game shows much potential but right now gameplay is rather limited.

Love all the new items though. smile

I saw on a feed that if you take off a t-shirt and put it on the ground, then from the inventory screen (once it's on the ground) then you can 'rip into rags'. They can then be picked up and used as bandages, although there is a chance of infection unless used with a disinfectant. Hope that helps.

played a bit today, met 8 random people. good fun, until the server crashed.

Arma 2/Take On engine. Even so it is the best optimised I have seen any of the Arma engined games, even in alpha.

Yea, I figured it out but not before I was about dead so I just let the zombies kill me and made a new guy.

I'm curious. Does the M-4 or any of the M-16 variants have a bayonet attachment in real life? You just don't see them used much anymore.

They do. I still remember pics from 2003/4 of US marines with fixed bayonets.

Does it feel like a different game or does it feel like ArmaII?

Also with bandages, once you have ripped up the shirt or whatever you can split the rags and keep a few as well as give a few to a mate. Generally as soon as i spawn i rip my shirt off, tear it up and bang some rags into my hotbar so i am good to go and don't have to panic tear up clothing if i am attacked.

It feels a lot less "clunky" than Arma2.

EDIT:

Some more pics...
