Hi Guys,
So is it worth installing 1.30 if 1.40 is imminent?

Yes. 1.30 will become redundant, but if your install is complete it is a simple step to convert it. I have a patch uploaded to do this. Quote from the support document: With the additional mission type EAW140 is incompatible with EAW130 and needs to be run in a separate folder. You can copy your EAW130 folder and run the 7-zip installer in it. Some folders and files will be replaced- the DATA.CDF, the TEXT_ENG.CDF, and all the "LoadMis.dat" files in the FM folders
The new DATA.CDF has a "Weapons.dat" file that works with SPAW, DAW and ETO. There may be a "Weapons.dat" in a scenario folders which would be used in preference, but no longer works. If so, they need to be removed or renamed so that they do not get used.
Check: DAW130\DAWStuff SPAW130\SPAWFilesOnce your 1.30 install is complete I can give you the link to the patch

It is exactly the same as 1.30, except there is a new mission type. If you choose the torpedo mission then set it up just like a ship interdiction, and choose ships as the convoy type. With the correct planes you will see the torpedoes available for an offline mission, which is nothing new, as all the loadouts are selectable. However, if you do a Torpedo mission online, and choose "bombs" as the loadout with the correct plane you will get torpedoes, and so will your AI planes. Currently the planes with torpedoes are the Ju88A5 in ETO_01 planeset1, and the Kate, the FAA Avenger and the RAAF Mitchell in SPAW. Here is an example: Online Ship Interdiction in a Kate. Bombs selected as loadout, and we all have bombs: The identical mission, except the mission type has been changed to "Torpedo mission". We all have torpedoes: That is exactly as it is meant to be, and why I made EAW1.40

Not a bug but an omission which has come to light. There are new versions of two files in the "TEXT_ENG.CDF" to accommodate the additional mission type. In particular the "MSNNAME.STR" has an extra line in it. If the exe reads the old one without the extra line it will CTD when you try to switch from interdiction to torpedo mission. Because the old versions are in the "SPAWFiles" folder the exe will use them in preference to the new ones in the CDF, and you will bet a CTD. To avoid this simply remove the "MSNNAME.STR" and the "NETTEXT.STR" files from the "SPAWFiles" folder. I will look at Ray's originals, and adapt them for 1.40

There was still some room, and I have made more Immediate plans: 1. There is an "interdict.mpf" file routine that stops certain types of interdictions from appearing in the menu. This is quite old and not new to 1.40. As there is no railway system in SPAW the presence of the "interdict.mpf" file prevented the old "train" interdiction from being offered. Conversely a totally land based scenario might need ship and warship interdictions to be not available. So this file stops some potential CTDs. With 1.40 the routine needs to be adapted to apply when torpedo missions are selected, so there will be new versions of the three exes (30 plane, 16 plane and 8 plane). 2. I want to create a new installer for people starting from scratch so they do not have to go through the 1.30 installation and patches and then update to the 1.40 version. Jel

Hi Jel,
Think I might wait for the "all in one" version of 1.40 in that case.
Thanks for all the work.

I have been working on the 1.40 exe and I think that it is getting close to release. At some stage of the 1.30 development, and not of my doing, a routine was modified which caused an oil plant to be displayed as a graphic for your parachute when you hit "Alt-B". It took a while to find but it was fixed a few days ago. There was also a problem with the altitude settings for single missions coming from other changes in 1.30, and this has now been fixed. The dive bombing routine is also working again. Introducing the new "Ship Strike" mission type for torpedo missions required several modifications. Yesterday I found how the primary mission type affects other mission types. For example if you fly an escort mission the friendly secondary planes automatically do a bombing mission. The enemy primary planes do an intercept mission and attack the friendly secondary bombers and the enemy secondary planes attack you and the other escort planes. Obviously nothing was set for what the other aircraft must do if you fly a ship strike, but this has now been written and appears to be working well.

A new 1.40 installation is currently being uploaded. I have had to break it into four files to get them uploaded. The plane skins and sound files take up a lot of space. The upshot is that with the first three files the user gets the full ETO set-up with five planesets. The fifth has the EAW default planes, so V1 interceptions are possible. The fourth file gives you SPAW and SPAW45 with both the original and online versions, plus DAW and a beta Western Front to try. The first three files have arrived, and the fourth is on its way. I will post links for the Club 130 members. Jel

Just an update. I have been working with Ray Otton to get the SPAW and SPAW45 loadout and weapons systems working as he intended in the original releases. It has meant an updating of the weapons and hardpoints editors, plus a modification of the exe. The plan is to get SPAW working to his satisfaction so that it can be released. Then we can tackle SPAW45. So I am not offering more downloads for testing at this stage. Jel

Although it might not be realistic for its time, there is one loadout that Ray made that I absolutely LOVE! "100 X GOD KNOWS WHAT" Reminds me of a B-52 bomb trail. Beautiful.....just beautiful... Only problem is when I get to the target, I am the only one that has it. Everyone else either drops theirs when I ALT-N to the encounter, or they drop them like drop-tanks when enemy planes arrive. I was curious about a very large explosion when bombing a munitions ship. It always shows as a huge square. Is this correct? Everything else is going pretty good. I also enjoy Roy's seamless water!
