Lol, I remember playing it on the BBC Model B micro, and eventually on the Sinclair Spectrum.

Elite was the reason I got the BBC/Acorn joysticks, flight simming was just a short journey from there smile
The BBC analog sticks made a huge difference in how the game played, one stick gave you speed, and the other gave you roll and pitch. Ah memories smile

I'd love if the first mission of the new game would be to take 4 tonnes of wine from Lave to Leesti in the Cobra Mk3 smile

Few weeks and it's beta. Half that price.
One more month and it's even cheaper.

looks and play really good… but i'm a patient man. I'm still dying to play a new Elite game (much more than Star Citizen)…. So much memory with one of the few games I spend 100+ hours in.

Goes down to £100 next then £50. £100 is doable for me and you get all the future expansions etc.

Mace,

I honestly have never heard of any game costing even GBP100, let alone GBP200.

That's like buying myself a really nice piece of gaming hardware.

But be it, if this is going to be as good as everyone is hoping, then I will support it,........ but not at the moment or even when it is GBP 100. I can afford GBP100 but it just seems outrageous considering every other Alpha Early Access I bought cost a mere fraction of that.

I've spent far more on MWO, but of course I've played it to know what I think. IMO, it's a little crazy what people are shelling out for this game and Star Citizen, especially unplayed, but I guess its their money and they clearly feel more strongly about it than I do. Sets an awkward precedent for future games though. It's not easy to make a space combat game that's really entertaining these days, unlike 10 years ago. Not to mention get it to run right and relatively bug free. These people and the SC people better not mess this up.

The point it's not that the game costs 200£.

Alpha is 200£. And for a very good reason. It limits the amount of people in it.
The Elite Forums are some of the most mature and well behaving communities I've ever seen.

The history of the series, the type of game and this last iteration it all appeals to a more grown up segment of gamers.

I honestly believe no Alpha should be played by public, Beta just maybe.
Alpha is a little more that technical layer being laid down and on which you build the rest of the game.

Having been part of gaming industry I know how bad an alpha can be and how much it can change.
So, a swarm of 12 yrs old yanking everyone about how much it sucks the shadows that are declared a placeholder (and lots of stuff like this) helps nobody.

A limited grown group of people how actually invested a discrete sum into a project behaves differently.

Just my opinion of course.
