Absloutley NOTHING on the media about this. Sadly I expect taht this will end up like Trafalgar day; an obscure ,forgotten day that commemorates an event that changed world history.

God bless those who died, who served and who still serve.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Yes, it's pretty sad how Pearl Harbor seems to be fading from memory. The 911 attacks were bad, but Pearl Harbor changed the entire course of world history. There just aren't that many around any more that actually remember WWII. On top of that, the main-stream media tends to like to apologize for the role the Allies played in WWII instead of commemorating the sacrifices made by so many to protect the world from tyrants like Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito.

"Those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it."

Salute to all those who served and died in the name of freedom! May your sacrifices have not been in vain.

I have no doubt NBC will have a piece on it tonight on the news. They do an excellent job of remembering our greatest generation---a term coined by Tom Brokaw and title of one of his books. One of the things I really like about NBC. They mention the passing of each MOH winner as far as I know too.
I don't think we'll ever forget the event, but the *date of the event* is something most can't recall, sadly.

They're having ceremonies out here to commemorate the occasion.

It's not forgotten out here, at least locally.

We are down to 1 million out out of 16 million ww2 vets in this country. My town has exactly 1 guy that was at pearl harbor. found that out at the veterans day deal here. biggrin The disconnect of US elders and the general society is sad. There are still a lot of ww2 vets out there, yet you rarely see or hear about them. =( SO many of our fathers or grand fathers or even now Great grand fathers fought in this conflict. Yet so much disconnect. sad.

Well it has been the way of the world to just treat Our more mature Population as if they are leppers or something.. Seems they are the Forgotten and uncared for relegated to old peoples homes to rot..

Well funny thing is we ALL will get a turn at it Karma my Friend wink

TOTALLY unhistorical wartime movie. Its a good flick for sure. I'll ruin the ending. They do not all die. SOme actually survive the war in POW camps in Japan. But those REAL jar heads on Wake did a HELL of a job with next to nothing to do it with.

Hehe,

Well no doubt...it was a wartime movie. biggrin

But considering that the movie was made in the months immediately following the battle, I wonder how sure they were about what actually did happen to the garrison.

After all, the last transmission, "Enemy on island. Several ships plus transport moving in. Two DD aground." doesn't exactly instill confidence. attack

FOR SURE.

Their crappy buffalo fighters they had like...4 had a disproportionate on the battle. ANd the trap they sprung the 1st time a Japanese warship got into range of their coastal defense arty was brilliant.

edited due to silly spell check throwing in wrong word. biggrin
