Hello,

I bought IL2 Cliffs Of Dover a couple of months ago, but have yet to be able to enjoy it.
Basically every time I try to play it I get an error during the launch screen (while loading a training mission for example). I don't know what the problem is unless my system specs aren't adequate. Here they are:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 6550. Graphics: ATI HD4850. 4 gigs of ram on a Windows XP SP3 machine. DirectX 9c
Can anyone tell me if it's possible for me to pla this sim? I own every iteration of the IL2 franchise and this is the first time something like this has happened. I have the Steam version, by the way. An help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you take a screen shot of the errors?
Also make sure you install the Team Fusion patches.

It MAY be unplayable without them.

Internet
Your computer specs is not able to run at full graphic settings, with tweaking is possible, but:

Windows XP SP3

CLoD in XP & DirectX 9 is "no go", you need Win7 64 bits.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks. I've been thinking about switching to Win7 on my gaming rig, since I have it on other machines. At any rate, here is the error message, though it doesn't disclose much:

Dan Griffin, I was experiencing the same issues running Win7 32-bit and found it is due to limited RAM. Even with 4GB of RAM installed, the 32-bit OS really only sees 2GB. Obviously installing the 64-bit version and upping the RAM to 8GB would be the ultimate solution, but until I can make that happen, there is a work around. I don't know for sure if it works with XP, but it's sure worth a try. It's a simple text edit made in the Command Prompt window and it ups the available RAM to 3GB. It made CloD playable for me without the incessant "Launcher has stopped running" failure. Here is how:

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista™ or Windows 7:
Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072"
Restart the computer.

If it doesn't work or causes other issues, here is how to disable it:

To disable the 3GB switch:
Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa"
Restart the computer.

Credit goes to 92 Sqn. Philstyle for posting this over at the ATAG forum and making the game playable for me. I hope it works for you, too! I play offline these days and have gotten decent frame rates with a few lowered graphics settings in all but the most heavily trafficked missions. Even then, there are "lite" versions of many of the campaigns and missions for those of us with more "challenged" systems.
