I am looking to acquire an Intel i7 4820k soon and I'm looking over my options for an X79 motherboard. I will be overclocking this chip. Any recommendations on a good x79 motherboard for that purpose?

I was looking primarily at an Asus Sabertooth, but, unless I'm reading the specs wrong, it's doesn't support the faster rate DDR3 ram that is available. I am also considering a gigabyte.

Any input is appreciated.

I just picked up an ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition last week and it's been fantastic. Overclocking of the CPU was dead easy, and it ran my RAM at the specified 2400Mhz without a hitch. Previous motherboards and Sandy Bridge-E had problems with high CPU overclocks and RAM overclocks at the same time.

The board is is just simple to work with, stable and feature packed. I have a nice voltage offset running my 4930K idle at 0.976v, and boosting to 1.36v @ 4.7Ghz at load.

Not cheap or easy to find right now however. Supplies are low and demand is high as the product just launched.

Thanks RSharpe. I did notice that board out of stock at the major online retailers.

If you absolutely must get an X79 board soon, I'd suggest one that was designed for Ivy Bridge-E in mind, and is not merely a bios update of an older Sandy Bridge-E board. Perhaps try the ASUS X79 Deluxe.
