Servus guys,

First Clash is a multiplayer H2H campaign. The campaign coordinator is 12Alfa from canada.
More informations you can find in the steelbeasts.com forum or if you don`t want to search a lot, you can also visit
steelbeasts.org

During the mission we had no map updates!

I was leader of a section M113s with TOW. I had the order to overwatch the open area between point 121, 122 and 128 and the area east of 121.
Our battle position was excellent. Eastwards of us was the village KUPPENHEIM with a big minefield. There was also
a small hill between us and KUPPENHEIM. For overwatching the area north of us we could use hidden positions.
In the first phase of the battle the area north of us was occupied by an armoured infantry platoon (M113 G3 DK).
So our point of main effort was overwatching the high area in the north east of KUPPENHEIM.

My wingman was Gladiator, yes the guy from the Lappland mission. So I was not wondering if he asked me: "Duke, can I have a tank?".
But this was not a desired concert and he had to command his M113, and he made it perfectly.

starting picture from the AAR with all parties

The mission started and my wingman spotted very quickly enemy vehicles (BRDM-2) in the north east of KUPPENHEIM. We spotted also a T-72M1 near point 150.

We had no EMES, so we had to estimate the distance. After a short discussion Gladiator tried a shot.

It locked good, but the distance to the T-72M1 was over 4000m and the missile crashed down.
It was his one and only miss today.

Gladiator spotted enemy vehicles and I reported his messages to my CO (Brun from USA).
From time to time there was also some civilian traffic between the lines.

I´m in battle position. Gladiator is situated right of me.

Suddenly we heard cal.50 fire from area 121. The armoured infantry platoon north of us was shooting.
He spotted BRDM-2s and T-72M1s, but these guys shot back.

Now they had to move back over bridge 2 and to move to our right flank and to overwatch the minefield in KUPPENHEIM.

????

After a while he had collected his callsigns and falled back. A lot of radio traffic today.
Some guys were not happy with the no map updates.
We heard T-72M1 sounds and they came closer, maybe westwards 121.
Our right neighbor started shooting.

They were shooting with their cal.50s against a BRDM-2 and later against a T-72M1.
I don`t know why, but 125mm against 12,7mm the result is clear. We lost two M113s.

During their fight, I spotted an enemy BRDM-2 in 128, moving west.

I reported his movement and Gibsonm (Australia) took him out.
The T-72M1 we spotted after the start was all the time in battle position.
Why we cannot extend the wire, damn.

T-72M1 distance is over 4000m

Our CO ordered an ICM strike for area 121.

In the background you can see the incomming ICM strike.

Gladiator spotted in the same moment a T-72M1 and fired a missile.
Pardauz, Kardengel a hit but not deadly. The second missile did it better and destroyed the T-72.

I`m in battle position, Gladiator right behind me.

After what felt like an eternity, a second T-72M1 was attacking with fast speed. Now I got my chance.
Gladiator was stand by, ready to fire a second missile.

My missile hit the T-72M1 but not deadly so during I was reloading Gladiator fired his missile.
The hit was deadly.

A short time later he reported a BTR-80 around 121, fired and destroyed the BTR-80.

But now he was running out of missiles. I asked for an ammo truck, was not so easy with all the radio traffic.
He drove to supply depot 1 and started to reloading.

In the mean time the red commander sent some infantry guys for recon.
I saw 3 infantry men and engaged with cal.50, no problem for the AI commander.

A short time later my left neighbor (Gibsonm) spotted enemy infantry too.
The enemy infantry had no chance in our cross-fire.

My next victim was a lonely infantry men in the woods of 128. He was walking very slow.
I sent him a missile. It was not a kill, but he was running very fast away.

Then I was overwatching the area of 121 and spotted another BTR-80.
First I could not say if he was destroyed or not. But I saw he was moving his turret a little bit, but how to shoot through the trees. Damn, my first shot hit a tree.

the gap was to small

better

The second try was better and this BTR-80 was destroyed too. Gladiator came back from reloading and I wanted to go to supply depot 1, but the mission was over.

For the TOW section it was a good mission with some action.
I´m looking forward to the next missions.

cheers

Duke

The Sticks, England.
Dang, Should've dropped some 122mm "love" down on that spot report. duckhunter
At Grid 4360 (Or was it 4336?) 0940, in the Orchard.
Anyway we knew there was something there.

But TankHunter wanted Niederbuhl pasted.
And it was reported as a "PC" contact, not "There is an M113 TOW here!" pitchafit

Oh well, live and learn.
duh

Its not the bullet with your name on it you have to worry about.
But the one addressed:

I'm sure you are Duke. But isn't shooting fish in a barrel going to get boring as the weeks go by? That's assuming any fish turn up to be shot, of course.

Servus,

don`t know what you mean? The shooting was not so easy like you mean.
Against the BTR-80s and the first T-72 we had to shot during the trees.
We could only shot why red was not moving. The distance to the second T-72 was under 500m.
He was moving fast through our Kill Zone, so we had only time for one shot.

I was reading the discussion in .com Forum.
I can promise you all your movement we spotted, we use both normal sight and TIS.
The T-72 near point 150 we saw also without TIS.

My Fraps was running during the mission and made every 5 seconds a screenshot.
I can send you over 800 screenshots but after the campaign.

cheers

Duke

Yes, of course you used both. The daysight often offers a clearer picture of targets at close range. But your first screenshot show you picking up a tank at very long range that would not have been easily spotted without TIS. Once you had spotted it using TIS, you may well have switched to the daysight and have a screenshot showing that once you knew it was there you could just see it in the daysight. But that is not the same thing. Not having TIS, the tank in question would never have been able to see your MII3 TOW located in a nice defensive position. And I'm sure there are many similar incidents that you have not shown in which long range TIS contacts were reported to Blue C.O so that he could deploy his forces appropriately. Everyone knows that TIS is a 'force multiplier'. To suggest that it offered no advantage during this battle is ludicrous.

But I assure you that I'm not whinging about any UNFAIR advantage. NATO forces at the time this engagement took place definitely had MII3 with pedestal-mounted TOWs with TIS. It was one of the Western advanced technology features that went some way to offsetting the WP's enormous numerical superiority. Quality versus quantity. It is the design of the scenario that pits attacking WP forces against NATO forces on at 1:1 basis that is the essential problem.

But perhaps we should move this discussion to the UKA forum?

Best wishes
Tjay

Indeed! My comments should not take away any kudos from that.
