Hey guys,

Can you recommend a good SATA disc controller for a simple RAID 1 setup in my box? This isn't for a server, so it doesn't have to be fancy or expensive -- just reliable.

The ones I see on the egg look a bit sketch to me.

Edit: SATA III controller

LIGHTBULB...

Anyone ever tried to use a Dell PERC outside of a Dell server?

Thanks for the link, but I said I'd already looked on Newegg and found cards that either cost $400 or those of questionable quality.

Here is a 700+ page thread in which many people discuss using PERC5/i in PowerEdges and custom-builds:
http://www.overclock.net/t/359025/perc-5-i-raid-card-tips-and-benchmarks

I've found guys on other forums who have used the newer PERC 6/i's in other systems too. They are powered by the same LSI chipsets that you see in the $300-$500 cards on Newegg, so I figure I'll pick up a used PERC6/i off of Amazon, and get enterprise quality disk controller at consumer quality price.
