The Battle of Samar, probably most well known for the courage & heroism of the captain & crew of the USS Samuel B. Roberts "the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship", was fought on this day in 1944. I wonder if the Samuel B. Roberts was part of David Weber's inspiration for the Manticoran destroyer HMS Madrigal in "The Honor of the Queen." During the First Battle of Yeltsin's Star, Madrigal covered the retreat of an outgunned Manticoran/Grayson combined fleet, destroying 2 Masadan light cruisers and 2 Masadan destroyers, and damaging 2 more light cruisers and 4 more destroyers before being destroyed herself.

Just read the book, the Masadans were a few centuries backwards in technology. They used rocket powered missiles and crude lasers compared to highly advance 500 G impeller missiles and heavy grasers (think Gamma radiation level of lasers)

The actual Masadan ships were antiques compared to those of the RMN, but Masada had quite a few Havenite ships that were much closer to the equivalent of RMN ships. And quantity has a quality all its own.
