I'm not looking around because I don't think I will get anything cheaper. I am with EON on a duel-fuel tariff. That costs me £29 a month for gas and electricity. As for water,I am on a meter and that is £11 per month. It was £26/£7.99 a month until about 6 months back,I must be getting wasteful

Regards Mailman I don't really feel the cold so the central heating almost never goes on.If I do get cold I just put more clothes on. As for the water,I just don't waste it.Always take a shower, never a bath.Having no garden helps. I have a 1 bedroom 1st floor flat by the way. Before this I had a 3 bed detached bungalow with economy 7 heating. It cost a small fortune to run that place.Never again (unless I win the lottery of course)

Lately I've been thinking if the energy companies can't provide electricity and gas to Britons' homes without charging them crippling bills that rise way faster than the rate of inflation - then there is a pretty good case to re-nationalise these companies.

One good thing about living in Quebec is the ridiculously low cost provided by our government-run/owned electric utility, Hydro-Quebec. I think we have the lowest rates on the continent. I think it's about .06 per KWH. Our bill for the last two-months was $122. We're on a plan so it's pretty much the same all year round, and we heat with electricity.
Private industry has been screaming for years to have Quebec hydro power privatized, they say our rates are far too low. (Yeah, great tactic, les boys, by all means keep that one up.) So any Quebec government/political party who sells Hydro-Quebec to a private concern will be forever blamed for skyrocketing hydro rates and will never win an election again. Besides, the government is more than happy to rake in the billions in profit they make every year already off hydro.
We have lots of complaints about lots of things here, but the cost of electricity isn't one of them.
Question everything!

Zero. We have a 5.2 kW solar panel system on the roof. If we didn't though, we'd be paying Aus$0.22 per kW/h.

I'm looking at £2100.00 a year for combined gas and electricity, the big culprit is gas as it's used a lot for cooking on a big hob (we're big into food and cooking). I switch every year to the cheapest, avoiding First etc. as they are well dodgy. Blaardy hell mate! You must be cooking for an entire army to be paying two grand a year! Regards Mailman

$122 for two months - $61 each month. And we heat the house with electricity and take beaucoup hot showers. It's like gas at a buck as gallon.
Question everything!

One good thing about living in Quebec is the ridiculously low cost provided by our government-run/owned electric utility, Hydro-Quebec. I think we have the lowest rates on the continent. Close, but the lowest rates are from a municipally owned utility in a small town in Washington state, that own their own hydro dam long ago paid for. They charge $.02US/kW. It was being considered for a big deep underground dark matter detector lab a few years ago, in part because of the cheap power. Don't remember the name. I think it's about .06 per KWH. Our bill for the last two-months was $122. We're on a plan so it's pretty much the same all year round, and we heat with electricity. We pay $.07 in BC for the same reason, with BC Hydro. My bimonthly rates go down around $40 in the summer and hit $200 in winter. I could have them evened out, but leaving them unadjusted helps get my attention if things get excessive. I also have electric heat, in a rowhouse condo, so I get two sides well insulated by the neighbours.
