My wife and I just saw it. Haven't read the book, so can't compare. My wife loved it, I found it entertaining enough, though it was oh so very predictable.

Asa Butterfield's crying eyes started to remind me a little too much of Frodo though biggrin

The book is very good and the character Ender endures much more suffering than what the movie covers. I read a review and it mentioned that cut a good chunk of the book out. The book takes place over the course of something like 5-6yrs while the movie covers it in a year. Still looks to be a halfway decent movie and I look forward to seeing it.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

Can't wait to see it. I hope they leave in the 3 big events he endures, other than the training itself. Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped them all or changed them though, I bet they would cause a little controversy. Do they cover the brother and sister? I thought I heard a reference to Demosthenes in a trailer somewhere.

The book was interesting, though I wasn't a huge fan. Curious about the movie though so I appreciated hearing what you other guys thought.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Will have to wait till November 7th to be able to go see it in Belgium, but it'll be the 10th on the weekend (in Maasmechelen). If I waited till it showed in the Netherlands, it'd be January 23rd. eek

Seeing it Tuesday night. Can't wait. Just finished re-reading the book.

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the corps!

Hoping to see this coming weekend. I enjoyed the book, but from what I read about the subsequent books, they didn't sound nearly as interesting.

Saw it last night. A condensed version of the book. Many things are curtailed or modified to fit into a 2 hour movie. Movie itself is pretty entertaining and I recommend it, but I you really love the book you may be disappointed.

As Jason points out, the movie is quite condensed. However, I was not disappointed (even though I love the novel). Some things that were left out would probably not have been treated justly if they were squeezed in (and thus taken away from other areas). Case in point:

Decided this might be too disappointing in the theater from what I've seen here. I guess we'll wait for bluray.

I was looking forward to the film adaptations of one of my favorite books but I am like you now, after reading some of the online reviews.

Why is Harrison Ford still getting roles?

He is starting to have the same facial expression in every movie now outside of the Indiana Jones series.

What's in the box? C'mon, what's in the boooox?

Saw it last night, thought it was fairly good... as good as a hollywood adaptation of a book can be anyway.

He works a lot cheaper now. He's had a lot of box office bombs over the past 10 years.

I thought it was the best adaption it could have been. I would have loved to have seen it be a 7 hour movie encompassing everything, but that's not realistic. The battle scenes were superbly done, just wish there had been more of them.

Gallycadet brings out an important point. Certain books simply do NOT lend themselves to a 2-3 hour film. They have to have at least a miniseries in order to be properly adapted. LOTR is a rare exception.

Yet it still is missing quite a lot! So if 1000 pages still needs more than 1 hour per 100 pages...

The Dune miniseries was likewise too short for a 500 page book. If the subject matter is dense, it needs time. Most novelizations of films (adapted from the screenplays) are barely 200 pages because you can say it in relatively few words.
