I still consider voice over net to be a landline. I’m looking to totally eliminate that cost, not to mention telemarketers. Thanks anyway though!

I'm thinking a device like this is going to help ...

It goes on the bench in the kitchen and stays there until i hit the sack when i plug it in near my bed as it is also my alarm.

Best thing is you can assign a different ring tone to all of your contacts so if it is a standard ring tone that you don't have applied..then it is more than likely a spam call..i get a few of these a month and assign 'spam , spam1, spam2 etc to the number after i find out who it is smile

Actually you do. wink

Some people have no choice. Where I live we used to have great cellular coverage. In the last several years the signal strength has gotten worse and worse, to the point that my wife sometimes can't even get enough signal to send a text message (I don't text and refuse to). We only live two miles from the nearest cell tower, too.

Unfortunately, where we live, we only have a single choice in mobile telephone providers. When I started my side-business a few years ago, AT%T was about to put a new tower up in the area and had a good rate plan, so I got a phone from them. Shortly after the company that was actually going to own the tower and lease it to AT%T went bankrupt. The tower never got put in and the phone won't work here. It rolls over to my other mobile phone, which works sporadically. Because of all this, I still have to make all my calls at home on a land-line.

If your using a landline for your burglar alarm then your not really safe anymore. Burglars can cut the line at the box or smash the unit before it dials out. Cell based systems have a constant connection that cant be interrupted. Most companies are going to cell based alarm systems.

As far as dumping the landline for your cell, you have to get use to not having a home phone and remember to keep your cell charged at all times and nearby to hear it.

No immediate "pay per view" movies from Direct TV, without a land line hooked up.
You'd have to call them, to get the movie piped in.
Just one more reason.
And I like a back-up systems anyway.......

On topic, here at the german-french border, far away from civilization, a landline/DSL combo is sadly the only way to get a semi-decent internet connection. Cable is not available, LTE has tiny bandwidth limits and anything else is slow. Like mid-90s slow.
