Yes, but for this aviation game, the developer comes from the Il-2 series and it's using a known DCS platform so "all" they have to do is to make a new map, new objects and flight models.

I'm just sorry that all the knowledge and effort behind Steel Fury (which is really amazing, especially with the Steel Panzer mods) and all the engine advancements after that for APOS series don't get used for a new tank sim (maybe crowdfunded via IndieGoGo). But, you're probably right, it won't bring you money, just perhaps cover itself.

I think the point Andrey is trying to make is-
Right now GTOS is just making enough money to keep Graviteams head above water, with very little profit to expand the game in a way that the customers and Graviteam would like to see the game advance.

Graviteam is a small outfit and even if they got some money from kickstarter to make a tank sim, they would have to divert people and resources from MiusFront43 and GTOS to work on it.

And if the tank sim doesn't realize a profit, this has the potential to ruin any future progress in both the tank sim and the GTOS/Mius Front43 games and might possibly put Graviteam out of business.

I can understand Graviteam wanting to be prudent in this regard, and just go with what is making a profit and not gambling unless they have some extra cash to gamble with.

A lot of us would like to see GTOS or some form of GTOS take on the WW2 Western Front, but Andrey has said repeatedly that there isn't enough profit to finance this endeavor.
So I'm guessing a tank sim would be just as unlikely for the same reasons.

Yes,a decent publisher, especially one who doesn't find WW2 boring and done to death with deep pockets are hard to find.

The WW2 tactical market seems to be shrinking and any attempts to make a profit in this area are bound to be subject to the laws of diminishing returns.

No sense beating this dead horse anymore as Andrey has made his point crystal clear guys, for Graviteam tank sims are a dead genre skullhead

I would also like a new succesful tank sim, but I can undestand that can hardly happen. Developing a sim is very difficult and labour intensive work. On top of basic game elements (engine, models, skins, UI, sounds, voices, ...) one needs extensive knowledge on the subject (history, military, realistic physics!). In standard "fantasy" games, not in sims, one may use totally arbitrary game mechanics, values and algorithms - no research required.

In short:

I somehow find it very funny and weird that many games use realistic looking models for weapons, though the weapon or its behaviour itself has absolutely nothing to do with the real one. Why this contradiction? Luckily movies do it more accurately. biggrin

OK, back to topic. Err.. Off-topic. Even though Graviteam is now focusing on Graviteam Tactics series (GT), keep in mind that the work will not go in vain. A good tank sim would also require lot's of features like detailed battlefield, weapon models, solid AI, command system, infantry, and so on... All of this will get better with GT. So, in theory, the work put in GT will be beneficial (in some form or another) for next possible tank sim in the future. And not just that - GT is a great game!

Graviteam sim`s are not well known enough (in the western world?) I would guess, plus the lack of multiplayer. Therefore the low sale rates I suppose. It´s a pity to hear that Graviteam is still not interested to provide mp mode. Nearly all members of our little (IL2) squadron playing Steelbeast, mostly via multiplayer. They (including me) are very interested in a WWII, 70er 80er or modern era tanksim...

In the nearby branch you can see the game in the same genre in which MP is native mode, and its selling is not that big. What is the point to advise anyone to add MP to the game to make it sell better if it is obvious that it does not increase sales? Where logic? It always surprises me.

I agree with Andrey that multiplayer is vastly overrated in this thread as a sales booster. I once read Oleg Maddox saying that less than 10% of the people who had bought Il-2 had ever tried multplayer. And that includes people who just logged on once to test it. The people who play MP regularly is a very small minority.

The succes of games like Skyrim, LoU and GTA 5 confirms the power of singleplayer in this age of internet.

Andrey: as for whether your games, tanksims or not, can be succesful, you seem to overlook an important problem that is particular to Graviteam: you have no marketing or PR. As in nothing at all. This is a huge problem (and I work for one of the four international gaming networks).

With proper marketing and/or PR, a good looking game like APOS could garner a lot more attention than it is getting at present.

Same goes for a potential tanksim. To my knowledge, Steel Fury had zero marketing and PR when it came out (and on top you were unlucky your publisher went bankrupt) and so I don't think you should necessarily judge the sales of Steel Fury as representative of the market for a good looking tanksim with proper marketing back-up.

Graviteam have two major advantages: you can make beautiful Graphics, much better than ANYONE else in this segment, and you have excellent technical expertise to make things realistic.

Don`t meant that MP is a huge sales booster. First, the game should have a great SP experience and as a plus should offer MP mode as well. If only it would allow playing coop against AI. In my eyes is a much greater experience to play a sim/game with friends.
Agree on the lack of PR and marketing and "...you have excellent technical expertise to make things realistic...".

Yes, but to create MP (such that you can play it, not for show) needs the resources to be diverted from the SP, the SP will obviously get worse or much worse. As a consequence, the MP has no one needs to be, because there will be no plus.

Its the first order problem.

Yeah, these definately walk hand in hand - as seen in modern games.

Anyway, the words of the government sound way too ideal to be real, so one can assume it's all about "reverse" proganda.

I thought the Russian Ministry of Culture was already funding this game.

When playing this game it amazes me that the Germans managed to penetrate as far as they did into Russia.
If was to go by how it plays out in the game, the Germans should have run out of men and tanks in the 2nd year and gone no further than a few 100 miles into the interior. smile

Strange article. COH2 not prohibited at the state or goverment level, it is removed from the 1 (one) distributor sales due to users demands. Connections between this slightly stupid laws of the Russian government and the "removed game" can do only a man who is not versed in how the political system in Russia (and ex-USSR countries) works and why someone brings this type of projects into the laws.

No one will funding anything (I mean the normal games). These are the laws for making money by politicians, not to them perform and someone was doing something.
