On the other hand the good news. We can focus all efforts on one goal, and do not spray. Tanksims now is dead genre. And it can raise (at least to the level of aviasims) only through injection of money, which is not on visible horizonts now. There is no point in making a games with a minimum budget from the last forces. Which is guaranteed the stalled by publisher.

No offense andrey but I bet the guys over at eSims would beg to differ with you on the statement that tank simulators are dead.
cheers

Everyone knows the multiplayer crowd is small but that small crowd generates enough buzz to justify the purchase for anyone on the fence(which is everybody at some point) so its silly not to include a multiplayer component, anyways these guys wonder why sales are not what was expected. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

btw I love Steel Armor, best Tank Sim right up there with SteelBeasts if only the developers put in the remaining 10%

Probably.
But in reality we have: 1 game made on technologies from early 2000s, developing extensively and 2-3 almost dead projects. And there are no any prospects for the future. Now its dead genre like space sims.

Look for progress in the field of similar area of flight simulators. We have up to 5+ live projects not high-tech but from 2006-2010s levels. And some projects in future. As result 10x more audience and money for the development.

But SB have MP support, how about big sales - 100K-1M or more? Where is it? I think that myth about MP is not right at all.

For example Last of Us dont have any MPs, but I think it have a sales from month better then all known tanksims from 1990 to novadays together. Or in Skyrim smile

At the moment everything is decided is the money that can be involved in the development and promotion, a set of features (including MP) affect the extremely weak.

I have read what you have to say Andrey and I am dismayed to hear that you believe tank sims have no market. There has never been more tank game players than we have right now. The customer base is now huge in comparison to pre WoT.

World of Tanks (I know it is not a sim) has thousands and thousands of players (99,000 on one server at time of writing) every single night. The servers are full of people playing a tank game together, the myth as you have stated is far from a myth, it is a fact, people play a tank game online, together in their thousands.

MP will surely make your your sim's appeal to a much larger audience, a ww2 tank sim with good multiplayer would sell very well. Heck we have been waiting for one since T34 vs Tiger, which was broken from day one.

You would be the only show in town, there are no new mp ww2 tanksim. Ssnake (eSim) has no plans currently to include ww2 as an era, they would be the only competitor you would have at this moment.

You obviously have the assets ready to roll, why not take the next logical step and make the MP supported tank sim we are waiting for!

As for publishers, why not have a look at kickstarter. There have been some great games supported by the customers. This would free you from a publisher and hopefully give you the opportunity to create a great tank sim.

These audience not overlap with tank simulators. WoT is a good game but Elves and Orcs even in tank skins dont have nothing in common with the tanks. With the same success can be assumed that strongly interested in tanks audience from WOW or Lineage. But in real world this not happens.

Sorry but it's just a fantasy is a non-confirmed on practice.

It is illogical and nonsensical move. What is the point to make a game that is guaranteed to be loss-making, and even adding very questionable and expensive features such as MP? If we can do that game what at least pay for itself?

Now we free from publishers. A project at the KS may only open a resident of the United States we dont have any smile. I'm not talking about the fact that on the kick starter does not collect the required amount, even 10% is not collected, very strict audience in this genre. This illustrated by the recent charges on game for tanksim genre. This shows a project in this genre that's where the money collected recently. All that able to gather is about 1000$. It's not even 1%. Sorry this genre is dead now.

I guess for you this genre is dead, good luck with your new ventures.

Can you please tell me what project was that exactly? I would presume it offered little to none in presentable content on the KS page so people had nothing to invest on.

Please excuse my insolence, but I feel the genre seems dead only because there was no high production values tank sims for ages (I would put M1TP2 and even Panzer Elite there). A tank sim needs to provide a convincing atmosphere (ranging from tank interiors to convincing landscapes), needs to offer good missions and campaigns which are more than a string of missions put together to provide it with replayability (so, at least smth like Panzer Elite with the crew and logistics), have a decent UI and needs to run smooth and have good support (bug fixing, additional vehicles and campaigns as DLCs, etc.). And an MP capability is a must these days, obviously.

IMHO, none of the recent tank sims were well rounded up products. T34 vs Tiger was promising, but published incomplete with little to no playable content and no editing tools with the MP broken. Steel Fury was pretty good at its core though I think it needed a lot of work in the presentation department (the menus were just attrocius, 3D interiors were bad, the controls were confusing, the UI was confusing, the map UI needed a lot of work, there was no tank unit management throughout the campaigns, etc.). It certainly didn't help that it didn't have MP and was all but abandoned after its release by the producer with no official patches or content provided.
The Steel Armor one was very disappointing. I expected a lot and bought it on its release and have barely played it since then. The UI and the map concept from the Achtung Panzer don't really work well in a tank sim IMHO. It's confusing and the map segments are rather small. Furthermore, the landscape graphics are simply bad and unconvincing. All the maps (Angola, Iraq and whatever) are small and look almost the same, are totally flat and cluttered with bushes (maybe suitable for Angola brush wars only) and tank ditches turning most of the engagements into some close range brawls.

Just for the record, I keep investing into Steel Beasts Pro PE, though, hoping for more 80s content and maps and a decent SP campaign system, but the company is very small and oriented towards professional market so the consumer aspects are always shelved for later. I think it looks simple and outdated, but certainly I prefer its clean look to that cluttered and confusing Steel Armor landscape.

So, if your next tank sim would continue in this vein (using the same engine and repeating the same lack of polish and MP and lack of future content or at least a comprehensive set of tools and editors for the community), then yes, it would probably not sell well. But that doesn't mean that a good looking tank sim with good production values (presentation, UI, editors, MP, additional content) wouldn't sell well.

Sadly, there are no companies left willing to invest into such an expensive endeavor.. Maybe the only hope currently is that the Edge graphics engine upgrade for DCS would offer convincing enough graphics for a tank sim so someone would develop the tank modules and maps (e.g. as the WW2 airplane content just got funded on Kickstarter).

Yes, Kick exactly what works. Money collected by "word of honor" in most cases.
World of honor for tank sims is an 1000$, for avia sims is 170 K. Its real world, not fantasy.

Its a sim, not fantasy world. You can see yourself how it looks in reality through Google Earths on this places. A strange claim.

Do you think that this is just such a cataclysmic significance, valued at 169K (99.5%)?

With all due respect Andrey,

Your company have a proven track record with tank sim's and delivering games to the public. I had never heard of the team doing Spearhead Platoon!

You have a customer base, the assets and skills to bring a tank sim to market, this is what a Kickstarter is great for, getting the dev's the money they need to bring the game their backers would like.

The problem is that even though it will keep a x10 investment (very optimistic), it's not enough. I'm really just looking at the number of buyers, unless we suppose that the fans for tanksims will be imported from Mars, I strongly unclear who will bake money (more than 10-20K) on the KS.

I would disagree here. Most of the successful kickstarter project have developed a prototype of a sorts so they can show something on the kickstarter page (unless they have a history developing similar games).

The game you quote is a quazi tanksim for iPads (?) with developers with no history in that domain and with nothing to show for, but some early 3d models. Of course nobody would invest in that.

For example - last sucessful KS for aviasim, is 170K w/o any prototype.

In this tank project prototype is present (if you carefully see in video you can see it). But its not help at all.

I like to think tank sims are sleeping and not dead. THERE IS interest. What I am currently working on.....which I can not talk about.....proves to me at least....that there IS interest. But granted...at this point I am unsure if a dedicated tank sim is possible real world. Buried into another genre with the limitations that usually has IS POSSIBLE.

Hell.... I just want mius at this point.
