Hi,

I am currently developing a nuclear submarine simulator, set in the cold war...it is in a very early stage but maybe some of you have ideas, want to give feedback etc.

Just check out my Blog

I don't know, but if it is possible technical accuracy would be HUGELY awesome. As in user interfaces, for sonar, weapons, maneuvering, etc.

I definitely plan to improve the realism, compared to RSR...but I do not make a second Dangerous Waters. So my focus is really a simulation of the captain's view and also heavily improve the interaction with the crew.

For example, I plan to implement a XO, which gives the captain advises and so on...

Did you check "DANGEROUS WATERS" from Sonalysts?

Sure...I own it since the beginning wink

I do not want to implement a DW clone...but a more modern version of RedStormRising, with improved realism, some working (important) consoles

Just to let you know that I'd be interested as well.

Sure...probably - if real life does not interfere, I'll plan to post the next development snapshot this month - including reworked sonar station and inclusion of the towed array.

I'll keep an eye open. By the way, I just replayed RSR yesterday and I'm amazed how the developers back then made so much out of so little.

I can help with sonar and fc interfaces for -637 and -688 boats.

Thx...I keep that in mind...My plan is to first have the most essential stations in a rudimentary, but working way and revisit them at a later point of time.

Roger that. I was an STS1(SS) on 688 and 637 class boats, before branching off into Naval Intelligence. I know the sonar and fire control consoles pretty well.

cool^^...during the cold war? I've read a lot of stuff about it and there also some quite good books about sound propagation out there...my sonar model is currently basic but it takes already the layer and shadow zones into account. But CZs and a complex modelling of Sound (bouncing of the ground etc.) is missing

Today I've finished the basic physics concerning towed array (simulating that the TA follows its parent sub, drag and that stuff) and also the mirror contact seems to be working. What is left is a washout effect if the sub changes rapidly its heading and I've to enable the tracker for all sensors.

So, then my current state will be that I can simulate Hull, Sphere and TB-16 - also reflecting different frequencies. Sure not finished and probably tons of bugs...but I make progress smile.

When I've implemented the two mentioned features, I'll post the next update to get feedback and then I want to move forward to the Narrowband sonar.

Start small. Release early and update often. Maybe start with a single sub and work on navigation and physics. Once that's down, release it and start adding in sensors and fire control.

I'd like to see nuclear systems modeled. Especially nuclear torps. Maybe research PAL and do something off that:

The very end of the Cold War was the start of my Naval career. I joined in 1988 and got in a few Cold War patrols before the Cold War Era ended in 1990.

Just found my old Amiga version of Red Storm Rising in the attic and seriously thinking about getting an amiga on ebay!
Maybe it´s nostalgia but i think RSR was kinda perfect balanced between campaign, immersion, realism and fun gameplay!
If someone would make just a version with improved graphics.....

A successor to 688i and Sub Command would be very, very welcome. Huge job for an individual, though, I would think. Good luck!

Thanks smile....but I do not plan to develop a clone of Sub Command or Dangerous Waters...more an updated Red Storm Rising but with more realism, some important consoles (obviously sonar smile and a good AI.

I am currently finalizing the next update...so stay tuned.

Yeah I was speaking technical interfaces used in the actual boats perhaps, in other words definitely not like Dangerous Waters.
