Looks like you would want to put a fan in the case's side (where you often find the window), blowing out though.

AMD R9-290X will not Use XFire Bridges *(will instead use the extra bandwidth available in the PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 Lanes).

PCIe 2.0 And Below will prolly require a Side Port or something.

Once you're out of NDA... Have any plans been revealed for an Eyefinity 6 style (6 Mini-DisplayPort) card?

Perspectively Speaking, I Think AMD is set on Supporting DP 2.0 MST Hubs.

Most of the AMD Direct Cards Look to only have 1 Full Sized DisplayPORT

The 13.11Beta drivers are out. They support the new Rx series GPUs (and the "old" HDxxxx GPUs).

Curious to see exact pricing, power consumption and noise numbers for 280x and 290 non reference boards.

Still I feel the pressure to upgrade is lower than anytime in the last 25 years. Currently using an almost three year old PC and the only game where I don't get an at least okay FPS/picture quality compromise is Project CARS with lots of AI drivers on the screen. And I'm not convinced yet, it is a game that justifies spending ~300€ on hardware.

Shockingly, me too. I like to buy for fun. But, there's no fun in getting "nothing" (in the way of useful improvement) for my money. I've actually sworn off buying anything for fun until Christmas shopping season. That would have been impossible in the past smile

I await next year's AMD Steamroller CPU and next year's (??) R9-390x (??) GPU. Hopefully, they will provide the excuse smile

Is there going to be a 300 Series?

I figured the 280s are 7900 Updates And the 290s are GCN 2.0 with a Larger die to combat nVidia’s GK110’s (Titan/780s).

That being said, the 280X is a lil more than a Tahiti Refresh, but for basic comparison sake, it’s a 7970GHz Ed. Refresh.

The fact that it can be XFired with 7900 Series Tahiti GPUs makes it a nice upgrade option for some looking to XFire, move the 79xx GPU to secondary, and use the R280X.

Since the 280X will debut at $300,

Expect 7970/7970GHz Edition GPUs to drop for clearance.

I saw 7950s for $189 recently, 189!, I Paid $479 , lol.

I don’t really want to do Xfire, I’d rather Double My Processing Power by upgrading to a 290X

I still run my overclocked 7950 at 1.2/6

Next Year I’ll Be upgrading Mainboard and CPU to the latest AMD Offerings.

Yeah it has been nice not to need any upgrades for the last while as far as CPU/GPU goes, planning to not upgrade for the next year at least... there is definitely some smoking deals on 7950s lately, almost like they are blowing out the inventory, good time for anyone that did the lower level cards to upgrade.

The next year, the only thing on my shopping upgrade list is a larger SSD drive, my current 256GB is pretty full with FSX add-ons and a 512GB or even 1TB SSD would be awesome if they come down in price. The best I've seen on those large ones is $0.60/GB hoping maybe Black Friday or the holidays will take it down a good bit more.

Depending on Mainboard Features.

I'll be upgrading to the Newest AMD CPU, handing my FX8350 down to my brother to replace the FX8120 I gave him.

New Mainboard should have PCIe 3.0, and Support for A lot more Ram,
I think My Board though it was the top 990FX for ASRock until the Extreme 9, it only supports 32GB (8GB x4).
I think that's the Max for AM3+ anyway, as the 64GB Boards for Servers/Intel have 8 Slots.

I want at least 64GB Support and wouldnt mind 128GB Support. (Wishful thinking, I know).

The New AMD GPUs also Crossfire Link through the PCIe3.0 Slots, so no need for a bridge,
Which also Allows me to use a PCIe3.0 Riser Ribbon Cable to Place the 2nd GPU in a Place I wouldnt normally be able to put it.

An SSD is on my list, but until 1TB is less than $300, It's still a not-feasable purchase, which is why I want alot of Ram... to make a Huge RAMDisk for temp/scratch drives.

AMD and nVidia, both need to drop the SLi/Xfire/Alternate Frame Rendering Linking of GPU Workloads in Multiple GPU Environments.

Might be up to the O/S Code, But I'd like to See a Floating Device Driver, that detects the GPUs, and See's them as ONE GPU.

ie
It will see a R9-290X and R9-290, and Map them as A Single AMD R9 Series GPU, and Set both Cards to the same GPU and Memory Speeds, and it will allow any program to fully utilize the 5376 GCN Shaders, regardless of XFire/SLI Support.

I'm guessing on the above GPU. I'm guessing the next AMD update in a year or so will be 22nm (now its 28nm).

They should be able to make a card roughly twice as fast as my current HD7970. Thus, I could replace Crossfire with a single card. Won't make any real difference to what I see; but, it will be "up to date".

If I wait for a difference I might see, multiple years may pass frown

I've got an i7-2600k and a GTX 570 that I bought when both were on the market less than 4 months. I'm still using them, over 2 years later. I barely have to lower the details in any game from max @1920x1080 and with generally a good amount of FSAA.

The pressure to upgrade abates when there is no deficiency in performance. Even Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes 2, DCS World, and Arma 3 run great at fairly high (but not max) settings. I've been planning on getting a GTX 770 or similar price/performance card once my paychecks start coming in again, but I'm not feeling a real push to do so.

When the latest PC-only titles run so well, why burn the $$?
