I am really, really torn on this one. TBH I'm stoked about every aspect of it EXCEPT the fact that you can only pilot one ship. Cool, you can do a lot of things with that one ship. Neat, that one ship can be customized pretty heavily...

Doesn't change the fact that the thrill of garnering that sleek new flyable ship is gone. I can't get the same feeling of accomplishment by grinding toward an equipment item, or a non flyable asset, as I do with being able to afford a brand new ship. It detracts from the longevity of the game in my mind as well by not being forced to step outside of your comfort zone and learn a brand new system.

But like I said, it's a toughy cause the rest of the game looks great. May have to wait for a few weeks/months of reviews before taking the plunge.

"It is a very good system, first is the choice, you can trade and mine yourself or you can automate the process. If you hire people to do it, the level they have, will have an impact on profit, as you make money you can hire a better more expensive captain that will be more efficient, wasn't stated on the video if they level up on their own.

Second micromanagement, to trade you have to assign a trader ship to be under your personal command, Bernd in the video uses 5 ships, you can have more or less, they do have different cargo abilities, so there is no universal trader. In the AMA was stated that you will get access to cargo ships pretty early on the plot.

Third, the trading has move to a contract trading, you purchase goods and pay for them to be reserved for you, till your cargo ship picks them up, and you sell them and get paid for it on delivery.
Before, you will check best buy/sell and raced to the factory trying to beat other traders, now you race around the stations collecting contracts, then match the contract that gives you the best profit. Oh and there are lots and lots and lots of different goods to trade with.

Mining, mechanics are the same, but asteroids have different yields and minerals, so if you do it manually, tagging, the pieces you want your mining ship to pick up, you get more bang for your buck, compared to the captain of the ship working on automatic mode, he will fill the cargo bay too, but there will be less good pieces of ore. Of course that changes with Captain level.

Item trading, you remember those traders inside the stations? They are present on Rebirth too, some show on the coms channel too, but now you can go inside the station and trade with them in person, that uses your inventory (the sum of the goods aboard the Skunk, personal items, mission items etc), it is a more personal way of trading, even if relations and discounts still apply, and you can buy and sell and use the Skunk as a trader, but it was hinted that mostly is for loot found in space and stolen goods or scavenged items, it showed a Scrap Metal Merchant, and you could buy and sell from her in bulk."

Is there any word on whether or not it'll be possible to land on planets? I know they couldn't possibly model every planet but I'm thinking it'd be possible for each person's game to auto-generate a planet's environment on the fly and save it to memory.
