in the A/A training the TGP A/A can be slewed painstakingly slow, and you have no reference on the HUD where the TGP is pointing at. Both makes it very difficult to find and lock A/A target with TGP. Am I missing something?

Nope, just a limitation of the software version modeled for the pod AFAIK. It's probably been upgraded in the real thing, but we won't be seeing any of that.
