Hello all,
I knew I'd be coming here one day, and here I am. I have a new-in-the-box Cougar HOTAS that I bought seven years ago, only to get side-tracked by RL Well, I'm trying to get back in the "game", and have a new system with Win8, a fast GPU and a fast processor lightly overclocked to 4.2Ghz. I've downloaded and installed the latest Cougar drivers for 64-bit operation (circa 2007), and thought I'd drop in here for a few tips on setup, potential problems, etc based on your experiences. I guess I need to plug it and my Elite rudder pedals in too. wink
thanks!
Flyby out
PS I bought a new Cougar to back up my older one (a spare, so to speak). But I'm rusty at such things now.

if i recall correctly, the thrustmaster elite rudder pedals are game port, not USB.

are you connecting via gameport to usb converter?

Yes they are indeed game port. Although the Cougar has a usb power connector, the base also has a gameport expressly for rudder pedals. Simply connect the pedals to the stick base and they should show up for calibration in the cougar's CCP.

hi all,
Yes, I recall how to hook up the rudder pedals to the Cougar's game port. What I'm saying is this: the last time I had a gaming system was several years ago, using XP 32-bit. I'm now at Win8 64 bit, and a not wishing to reinvent the wheel with regard to potential problems. Therefore I was asking for insight before going forward. Does anyone know what issues, if any there are in using this old software? On the other hand, I had gotten quite good at battling with Windows ME when that train-wreck hit the ground, so I could sort through any problems, but someone has been there-done that.
thank you,
Flyby out

i think you have to use ppjoyjoy and all these conversion adapters and software. not worth the hassle with game port controllers...

Well, you could read through this one: http://cougar.flyfoxy.com/faqinstall.php

...and check if everything went like that post. The rudders attached to the stick base should work fine. Only if they have been modded with L&R brake on the pedals, you would need to sacrifice the microstick axes 7 & 8 ccp by moving them to 9 & 10. The L & R toebrake can then be assigned to axes 7 & 8.

JAMF, thanks for the tip and the link!
much obliged,
Flyby out
PS no mods. though I do intend to grease the axis gimbals. I read somewhere that helps to avoid the metal flakimg.

GL! The help in Foxy is great, so don't hesitate to use it. Also, look in the profiles others have made, to see how you could solve things.

S~ JAMF,
I'm getting back into the swing of making profles again, but that's good advice you offer. No need to reinvent the wheel, eh?
BTW I took some advice I came across somewhere and I lubed the contact points on the gimbals of my new(er) Cougar. I recalled seeing flakes of metal when I took the base from the older one (now kept for spare parts) all those years ago. I also remember cleaning those pots out when they started spiking. Ah, yes. The good old days.
thanks again,
Flyby out
