Is this a player-controlled aircraft? I thought they only had helicopters?

Yup, it's a flyable player made addon.

ArmA3 still has flyable planes, but there is only one plane that comes with the game, on the Altis side (that's the L-39 you see being shot at in the screens). I don't know why BIS shipped with such a poor vehicle selection, but support is still there for aircraft.

I grabbed that a little while ago. Looking forward to trying it out.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Yep sad state of affairs when a first person shooter's aircraft has better terrain/lighting than a dedicated flight sim...

Since when a dedicated flight sim ever had a better terrain/lighting and/or resuming, better graphics than a FPS game (within the same timeframe of course)??

FPS games ALWAYS HAD better graphics in almost every regard (including better terrain/lighting) - This is certainly due to the fact that FPS games usually models small maps while flight sims models huge maps. Even in ArmA which models "huge" maps for a FPS game that is, ArmA maps aren't bigger than a couple of hundred square kilometers while dedicated flight sims have maps in the range of several thousand square kilometers (some even model the entire world, such as Flight Simulator).

Of course it looks better than DCS, especially the terrain. It has to look good while walking around, which is overkill from the air. Not to mention arma3's very nice lighting engine and satellite terrain (terrain textures actually look better from the air). If it looked like DCS it would be butt ugly on the ground (just thinking of DCS combined arms screenshots... *shudder*).

Cockpit pic, it's not as detailed or clickable, it's an infantry/combined arms sim.
