I love flying DCS P-51 when I can and very much hope this DCS WWII "takes off" so to speak, but I was somewhat underwhelmed by their kickstarter pitch primarily from not seeing any WIP elements of the aircraft they plan to make. Video games looking for funding through kickstarter usually have videos/screenshots showing more WIP than what I saw to entice funding from backers. I guess I was expecting some 3D aircraft renders at least instead of a bunch of P-51 / Dora / EGDE engine shots. Even just seeing an in-progress model of a Spit Mk IX would have been more convincing than using screenshots of aircraft they will not be producing in relation the project they are pitching for.
Anyway, to me there is no doubt they will at least reach their minimum goal, and I'll wager that if more information is released in the weeks until the deadline it will help the project's funding immensely. One can only hope this is the case, the more flight sims we can have the better!
Wow a million dollars, seems an unreachable level...but hey, you never know
Post composed with speech to text, it woks grape!
Clod OEM screenshots & videos of Eu release..So I fly the original game because I am a off-liner and the game's AI was broken after the last good patch, game version 1.0.13954 GigaByteBoard...64bit...FX 4300 3.8, G. Skill sniper 1866 32GB, EVGA GTX 660 ti 3gb, Raptor 64mb cache, Planar 120Hz 2ms, CH controls, Tir5
The kickstarter pledges might be the first time we'll have some insight just how small our genre is, although for the first time in a long time we have relatively completing developments, albeit different theaters.

I'm waiting to see where this goes before pledging any support. If this was anyone other than Luthier, I'd be behind the project from the get-go, but his track record with Pacific Fighters and CLoD makes me wary. I do hope for the project's success, of course.
Oleg, Luthier, and the DCS team working together to make a WWII sim. Talk about a no brainer.
Reading through the kick starter at least it appears we will not be grinding for unlocks, buying weapons, gauges, or w/e other developers like to sell. Looks like for $40 you get the whole enchalada all with DCS fidelity. Oh yes please. Yes indeed
I'm prepared to give him this chance, I really want this to succeed.
I suspect this is quite important for Tishin as well, hopefully ED will have a lot of input into this. Time will tell how well this Kickstarter will work, after the F35 failure I don't think it's a given, even though $100k doesn't sound like much given the scope of the project.
Unfortunately the bottom line is that the video pitch is poor and the rewards are confused. All I can see is evidence of EDs work on EDGE and screens of EDs P51 and Dora. Hardcore simmers will cough up but there just aren't enough of us to finance this long term. Hopefully we'll see some further evidence of what's happening over the month. Otherwise all bets are off.
$40 for everything ever... That makes me nervous already...

I'm guessing you didn't read through the kick starter? It's all laid out in the details. I don't understand what is so confusing.
And if you had read them, you would know the $40 was for all the planes that make it in the 1st release. They plan (if successful) to make every theatre in WWII. The $40 would be like buying IL2FB or then buying 1946 (all separate expansions) of the same game. Essentially it sounds like the business model maybe exactly how all their other IL2 titles were. The exception, since this has a KS attached to it, is more funding may yield more planes for the initial release.
I just can't understand why it's so confusing. It's all laid out in the KS and Ilya's answering of questions.
Maybe read the KS instead of just watching the welcome video?

The Kickstarter is poorly executed (very poor video thumbnail, average video, not very well expressed wording, and typos). Not a good start to engender confidence in the team's attention to detail and quality. Looks like they took two weeks to set it up, be sure!
Then again, I've seen a lot of poor Kickstarters with the same symptoms. I suppose some people just aren't natural advertisers.
I share the general trepidation by seeing Oleg and Ilya involved in this project. Yes, we had IL2, which for its day was excellent, but it wasn't always plain sailing and I needn't say anything more about CloD.
It looks like the main issue people are having is the tarnished reputation of those two. Since the Kickstarter states, "Oleg’s incredible talent lies in his ability to interact with gamers and to translate their desires into game features", I invite Oleg to come here and interact with the "gamers". He can start by giving us a no-nonsense account of what went wrong with the development of CloD so we can put our minds at ease. That would be showing his "incredible talent" and would do the most towards securing more pledges.
The saving grace to all of this is that, as has been said above, the engine is already established and vindicated. Some tweaks and adding content shouldn't be too much, so it's likely that something playable will come of this.

If they only get enough to fund the core sim, which is where i think it will end up, i cant see them making it to 375k in one month, it will be worth 40$ i think.

OK...
1)We have the P51, which I own, made by ED, the Dora is on the way, made by ED. These now seem to be included with DCS1944 content with no explanation as to how this will work. I'm surprised that Luthier is including EDs content with this project.
2)Do I have to buy the Dora if I give cash to DCS 1944? The Dora is supposed to be finished, or nearly complete, what's its status now?
3)Apparently the 3 RRG planes, Spit, 109 (Luthier says K, kickstarter says G...) and P47 are going to be free to play, presumably with the Normandy map. Seems to be an odd business decision, how are they going to generate revenue?
Quote:
"The free downloadable version of Europe 1944 will include THREE fully flyable aircraft, each arguably more famous than the next: the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter/ground attack aircraft, the Supermarine Spitfire fighter, and the German Messerschmitt Bf.109G (?)."
4)$40 appears to then give a free pass to all content for ever, once again that doesn't seem to be a sound business decision. ED sell the DCS P51 alone for $40. Maybe the $40 only refers to a sort of 2 for 1 on the P51 and Dora?
Quote:
"$40 - Everything at the $10 level, plus a digital copy of all flyable aircraft in the game (this will grow with the stretch goals and possibly end up offering a huge value!)"
I'll state again that I really want this to work, on that basis I've pledged $100. After Pacific Fighters and CloD for the good of the genre I'd like to see evidence of a sound business model that will work and realistic project goals.

I was thinking, "well, I hope another WW2 flight sim comes to fruition" but was pretty skeptical given the CoD release debacle (pre-ordered two copies). Then I watched the video. It was simple. It was heartfelt ("This is our last chance...). It had Oleg. Oleg wants to make a sim to realise his unfulfilled ideas, and one that he can show to his son.
