I dont really like the Retaliatory design. Looks like a modified constellation to me. It was supposed to be long term TOD operational for 6 but it looks like it really is just a constellation without the extra cargo space.

Ah well, I bought one a long time ago (when they first went on sale) so I guess the hype just got to me.

The Gladiator looks very cool. Like a cross between a Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, and one of the Episode III 2 seater bombers I forget the name.

I'll wait to get one of these with in game cash, I'm not spending any more real money until I can actually play this puppy.

The Hornet ad was really lacklustre, probably why they delayed the Hornet variants, but this Aurora ad is top notch. I like it even better than the 300 series ones.

Gladiator design looks way too wide for a carrier-based fighter-bomber. It's the same with Hornet, unless they'll design some sort of wing folding like on the F-14.

The Aurora commercial is perfect. It would be great to see these in the dealers offices in game.

I must say I really like the look of the Gladiator...damnn!

I have that horrible feeling that my weak character will not be able to resist throwing more money at this game... oh what the hell, I'm just recovering from a bilateral hernia op and I need cheering up!!!

Just for the sake of comparing things for nothing. smile

I agree, i like the Aurora commercial more. And also more that the commercial version of the Hornet showed on the livestream.

Aurora just went from a BastardChild to the most desirable ships in game. That's what I call good marketing.

A feeling me and a friend is getting from Star Citizen is that it's feels more and more like a huge money grab.. Constantly new stretch goals and ways for people to throw money at it....

That is exactly what it is MadDog but at the same time none of this is "required" stuff it is just extra fluff that you could wait and buy in game for free.

I have no problem with them releasing various money grab stuff like this as long as they dont start releasing things that are pay only. (besides the LTI)

Being 100% crowded funding is money grabbing. There are no external publishers or investors.

The difference here is that we can see how it's being developed and we have direct input to some stretch goals.
You've also got to realise that stretch goals are all goals that CR wanted in game but did not have the resources to implement. Once we reach a milestone they then have the budget to implement that feature. What would you rather have - just a straight up combat sim like WC and that.s it? No fluff, no extra systems, no salvaging, no capturing and boarding? All those were stretch goals that were met.

Sure they probably could have produced a linear type single player game only, SQ42, by now but that's not what CR or the players want. We want it all.

You should also read CR's statement about feature creep. He's fully aware of the dangers and is keeping an eye on it. Nothing is implemented without fitting into their budget.

One thing I have noticed about some of the stretch goals though is that they are feature that CR had planned to put into the game anyways no matter if they made the money stretch goal or not. I dont really care that much about it but I think they could have found some better stretch goals. At this point they are less stretch goals and more just outlining the last bit of ideas he has for the game.

(this coming from someone who donated over a grand to their project, I REALLY want this game to be a success.)

Some of them are expanded ideas that he now has the budget to do. For instance the land based fps, capturing a base etc. The basic idea was to have fps shootouts in ship to ship boarding action. Now with the extra funding he expanded that to planetside battles.

The same for salvaging. It was always going to be in the game but in limited form. With the $21 million goal met it's now a fully fledged career path with more goodies to explore/salvage. Extra funding just means the ideas get fleshed out more in more detail.

I hope it will be what he promised.
If not this is going to cause a riot.

In any case it doesn't touch me too much, I'm on the Elite Dangerous wagon. :P

But I seriously hope this is going to be good.

I need to pick up a copy of ED too some time. Probably just the basic version though.

Now is the best time... with a minimum pledge you get the basic version.
Waiting until it's released end up in a (probably) higher price tag.
biggrin

The good thing is that it's modular, if you know you're not interested in planetary landing or FPS action you don't have to buy the related module.
I for one, have pledged enough to get the Full version, with all the Modules included (when they'll be released, that is). An Elite game without planetary landings if inconceivable, for me.

biggrin

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Must have a look in on the E: D forums, havn't visited them in a long time, as with Spin Tyres too been too busy drooling over the Hawk in DCS of late smile

The Retaliator looks nice for a space/atmospheric ship and should go nicely with my PachydermStarfarer and Freelancer. With the clear up on how character slots/packages work I should be able to crew out my ships with the special NPCs.

BTW Elite Dangerous officially support Oculus Rift at Launch which means it's safe to assume Track IR Will be too.
