Another new mod has been developed for SHIII. You can now play the game in the resolution you want. The original resolution was 1024 x 768, and now I can play the Grey Wolves EXpansion Gold in a resolution of 2560 x 1600 without any distortion, stretching, or crashes. Born Again SHIII!....And it is not only one of its many modifications made along the 7 years since its inception. Somehow, one of most mediocre Ubisoft commercial execution, has been one of its most enduring success due to its Fan Base. If one would have wanted to do it on purpose, one would not have succeed! More details and download about SH3GWXWS 3.2 by Conus, AKA Silent Hunter 3.0 the Grey Wolves Expansion, WIDESCREEN Edition, on Neal Steven's Site; SUBSIM : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170191.

Damn! I had SH 3 as a gift but now I can't find it nor remember where it came from. The resolution was one of the reasons I didn't persevere with it.
It may have been a free gift when I pre-ordered SH 5 I'm not sure, anyway I cancelled my Ubi account when it got hacked.Such is life.

This one works with SHIII, GWX and LSHIII so far. I haven't tried on other mods yet.

That mod does not allow you to play on 2560 x 1600 if you video card/monitor does not cover that resolution. The mod allows you to play the game in the maximum resolution allowed with your video card/monitor, in my case 2560 x 1600.
I applied it on an on-going career through JSGME. Yet, never start a new mod where you last saved the game. Apply a new mod, then you need to start at port.
I am using GWX gold, it works with GWX 3.0., SHIII patched 1.4., LSHIII...
That mod will let you play SHIII in the resolution allowed by your video card/monitor.
My video card/monitor allows me to play game at a 2560 x 1600, and this is what I get instead of the former game limitation of 1024 x 768.

What version of SHIII are you using and what mods then what OS and the drivers on your VideoCards are the latest ones?

Sorry for late reply Gunny. I'm using GWE Gold V.3.0. SH3 is patched to 1.4 O.S. is Windows 7 64bit GPU drivers are latest nvidia whql. Also tried latest beta drivers. Mods are as follows: I've even tried with all mods disabled and got the same result.

It's ok!...from the get go, there is a question I need to ask: Did you install the SHIII 4GB patch that you can find on subsim? Then , I am using the Conus SH3GWXWS 2.3, not the widescreen mod which is old and I have never tried. My OS is win7 64bit Go on SubSim and download the CONUS SH3GWXWS 2.3. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//showthread.php?t=170191I play GWX gold and have the same upgrade you have. I also play the version from Steam.

I don't recall installing the 4Gb patch. The Conus SH3GWXWS 2.3 is listed in the available mods in my JSGME. I just hadn't re-enabled it after trying to get SH3 to run at the higher res. I'll check out the 4GB patch thing. Thanks. Well I successfully installed the 4GB patch apparently, but still no go.

The mod makes the game 1360x768 and no higher..any higher it will crash. the mod was designed for this res and this res only.
All thats happening on Gunnys PC is it being scaled up to fill his screen.

Hi skippers, the widescreen edition is gorgeous, but - alas - doesn't work with LSH properly. The training missions are fine, but if you start a career, you don't start where you should (e.g. home port in Kiel), but somewhere west of Africa So if you want to enjoy SH3 in widescreen, you also have to get the GWX 3.0 Mod. This mod you can download at subsim.com after giving a small donation.

I wasn't aware that Steam even had SH3. I may be misreading what you're saying, so apologies in advance if the case. I too may have to look back into this classic from a while ago.

I tried that site ( I am still able to log on to Sumsim ) but it was a no go -- the site looked to be not working any more.
A little help please for this old warrior.

Good News!! Over at SubSim with in the SH3 area where I asked about "how to get a larger screen size" a fine fellow ( Old Walleye ) listed a web site that worked.
I went through the process and have increased my size up to the 1600 x either 900, or 1024, or 1200. At first look all seem to look good, but I am not sure which will be the best for all issues during game play on my 22 inch Dell Wide Screen monitor.
Any thoughts on which screen resolution to use?
THANKS CW3SF
