Altis has been released to the development branch, 2.1GB

Messed around with it, it's massive and there is a lot of beautiful areas!

OOOOO... is there an ETA till in stable? Though the full game will be out soon. May have a wonder around the island though. Anyone fancy trying it online?

Place a few vehicles, maybe some hostiles, and just explore.

Ah so that's what the update was. I'll try it out tomorrow.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

Flew around for about 20 minutes or so, and it is amazing. I cannot count the amount of small little places that are just begging for a fire fight. The largest city in the South West corner of the map is also expansive and beautiful. Totally worth being late to class for smile

Wonder what hit your system will take if you have a forest map?

This map is going to be almost total vehicle combat. Sooooo wide open.

It won't be in stable build just in release.

The place is fecking huge! you get told how huge it is, but till you fly around it .. you dont realize just "how" huge it is! I can see some areas becoming a bit "samey" after a while, but prolly no worse than taki or chern. Theres a good mix of flat and hilly, green and brown, little towns, big towns. Theres also a few areas where only vehicles would be any fun just because its way to open for infantry. .... and i only noticed a little hit on frames, it still runs damn good! Very nice job to the devs, its one hell of a fine island!

this the stretch of water between the 2 sides ..

Just been doing exactly the same thing as you meatshield ... flying round altis looking at the locations .... does look very nice ... and as a bonus getting great frame rates

Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.

The only thing more accurate than incoming fire, is incoming friendly fire

It's in the Dev build so you have to opt in and then it's only in the editor.

Go into 'properties', then the beta tab and in the pull down there will be an 'opt into dev build' selection. It will then download the dev build.

Excellent. This is what I was hoping for - long range combat that necessitates heavier assets like armour.
I feel that is the one outstanding aspect of ArmA games that other games simply don't deliver. Point and click CQB shooters are a dime a dozen.
