So a couple of questions,

First, is this a online/offline sim? The Sq 42 seems to be offline but is the rest of it online only?

Second, With the hangar mod coming next week, that is just a module that you can walk around and view your ship nothing else correct?

Third the trading/economy part of the sim is a ways off if I read correct?

Fourth, Whats the best "level" to buy into the game?

This looks very very interesting, With that said I played EVE for about 4 years but got sick of the online aspect, Mainly the fear of being destroyed. When I pay for a game/sim I would like to enjoy it not be afraid.

1) All of it is online / offline. You can fly sq42 by yourself or with friends. Same with the MMO. YOu can play it by yourself offline, or online or host your own modded version of it.

2) That is correct. It is a way to view your purchases and walk around and interact with it. But as it progresses the hangar module will expand and add more ships, more things to do (customize your ship etc) and then finally multiplayer where you can invite people to view your ships.

3) The Economy wont appear until the end of next year when they launch the MMO beta. None of the other modules that will be released need the economy to function.

4) To be honest the best level is the lowest level. You get a starter ship (with LTI if you get someone to buy it for you.) and then you also get the sq42 game, the mmo game, everything between and access to all the betas. The rest of the ships are expensive and probably not all that great a deal unless you just have money to throw around.

Then if you want to explore trade you should get the Constellation or freelancer followed by 300i (in that order)

If you want to dogfight you should get the hornet, 300i constellation or aurora (in that order)

The cutlass is actually probably the best bang for your buck ship out there. It is highly customizable (supposedly) and pretty cheap (compared to some of the other ships lol)

Thanks master.

As far as ships go, Will they always cost real money or will they eventually be able to be purchased with in game money?

They have said its very much going to be anything in game can and will be bought with in game funds. They have used the chance to purchase ships with real money as a way to boost funding only.

Chris Roberts has said quite clearly that he will never do a game that allows those that can afford to buy ships with real money( or anything else )an advantage over those that choose to obtain things in game.

Cool thanks ratchatcher. That would have been a huge concern. Its a good way to make money for the sim though.

Might be purchasing this.

The main benefit to buying ships before launch is the early access to those ships in the hangar module and dogfight module. Once the game launches they will be able to be bought (except the scyth ship) and the insurance should be affordable enough not to be inconvenient.

I've got to say, having just watched the live event recording, I am very impressed with how this is shaping up. I love the fidelity that they are showing, and if this is the standard their setting for just the hanger, the main game bodes well.

Looks very immersive! ( cant wait till Thursday! )

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Was at the event at the Alter Wartsaal in Köln last night.
What a blast and what a team CIG are very open and friendly they all took time to chat with everybody. There was more than 1000 excited fans packed in the old waiting rooms at Köln train station, when Chris and his team came out we gave them a very loud and warm reception, the whole crew was quite stunned at the reaction we gave them. Speaking later with Rob Irving he was saying that normally he is hidden away and not used to this kind of limelight and he kept muttering about how awesome the fans were.

The reveal of the Hangar module started out with a bit of a falter with Chris inviting a single ship owner to come up and log in to see his ship in his hangar and the lad could not get the system to take his password, they were using a physical German keyboard and it was mapped to a US layout in windows and the lad could not get the special characters needed.

Then Chris Roberts tried to log in and failed too, he got the user name wrong. After that all went well and the Hangar module was well received by the crowd, the revision of the module was 20 minutes old and they all had their fingers crossed that it would not crash and it didn't. There are a few bugs in this current revision, none seem to be game stoppers tho.

Later after the talk we got to try out the different hangars and even to log in on Chris' machine to check out our own hangars.

Recording of the event can be found here http://www.twitch.tv/roberts_space_ind_ch_1/c/2809927
