Hi all
I installed Flanker 2.0, followed by 2.5, followed by 2.51 + the trg missions.
When I fly the tgr missions the game kinds 'surges' forward every couple of seconds. It speeds up then slows down again. So all the instruments surge 'round then come back, with a corresponding 'surge' in the FPS, roll, pitch change..etc.
Did a search, but seeing as SimHQ seems to have lost everything pre-Christmas......??

Any one got some advice?

Oh yeah.
WIn XP Pro
AMD athlon 1.5
GF2 Ultra 64 Mb (30.82 dvrs....F4, what can I say! ;\) )
512 RAM

I thankyeeaaoouuww ! \:D

I always blamed it on my voodoo5 but now I have a Geforce 4 ti4200 and I still see it sometimes. I wish there was a fix because it can be rather annoying.

Flanker 2.5 does tend to "surge" sometimes, especially at high altitudes, or with FSAA turned ON in your video card's display properties.
If you're trying to run FSAA with anything less than a GF4 Ti4400/4600, or a faster Radeon, you'll probably have the surges.
It also seems to have something to do with the way Flanker's terrain engine loads the scenery. The higher you fly, the more it loads and the more it surges.

Another thing. Flanker 2.5 does not run as well on WinXP EVEN if you're running in compatibility mode. I have spent some time checking the differences in performance. It seems most people are using XP now, and won't think of ever using Win98 again.
I'm currently running WinXP pro, and Flanker's performance really suffers. XP pro also hogs much more system memory, causing the sound stutters even with 512 meg memory installed. Win98/Win98SE does not. WinXP reminds me of the way Flanker runs with 256 meg memory installed on my older T-bird machine.
I'm sure there are some tweaks that will help with XP, but I'm not sure how the rest of the programs will run if these changes are made.

The best bet? Run a dual-boot WinXP/Win98 setup and run Flanker from a true Win98 installation. Also, if you absolutely have to use FSAA, you might want to upgrade that video card.

Thanks guys, great info there Mag \:\)
Funny thing..I tried some alternative scenery and the surges are almost non-existent now....even though I can't seem to get the new scenery to show up! Well, that's another thread.
But for now I can live with it, I don't notice it in the heat of the 'busier' moments, know what I mean \:D

Thanks.

Have to disagree, i dont have F2 installed anymore but my last install was on XP, no com. mode in use, fsaa*4, never under 40 fps and smooth.

For the not scenery to show up: does it go around the towns, airfields ect but not the rest? If so have a look at your mobo's site and look for an updated AGP driver.
