I noticed DCS.com is still selling BS2 for 40 bucks, even tho it has been released a long time ago. BS2 full or BS1+BS2 upgrade, both cost the same. Does anybody know of a cheap way to get BS2? E.g., I bought A10C for EUR 5 on Origin while DCS.com still asks USD 40 for it.

Also, if I want to buy and apply the BS2 upgrade over BS1, do I need a valid BS1 key or just the installation source?

Last question, when I buy a BS2 full key, I take it I can install the BS2 module directly into World using that key. However, if BS1+BS2 upgrade turns out to be cheaper somewhere, whats up with installing a useless install of BS1+BS2 upgrade first? I don't quite get the reasoning behind that. I have np use for a non-World installation?

Thanks! Especially pointers to cheap BS2 keys are really appreciated!

BS2 was in the recent sale for $19 I seem to remember, but since then it's back upto full price again.
You have to have a full installation of BS1 in order for BS2 to install (for the upgrade anyway), silly really as I'll never fire up BS1 and all it should need is a CD/key from BS1 to allow BS2 to be installed.

So upgrading needs a BS1 key and not a key-less installation source of BS1?

BS1 must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work.

Think about it. BS1 can be freely downloaded via the official site. It would be pretty dumb if that was all that people needed for the upgrade to work. biggrin

On a side note, do yourself a favor and get the BS2 full version if at all possible. The prerequisites for the upgrade tend to drive people insane, especially when they don't care about BS1 at all.

According to Wags (ED producer), the ED catalog will be available on Steam sometime soon, maybe BS2 will be cheaper there.

By prerequisites you mean the fact that you have to install BS1+BS2 upgrade and then the BS2 World module?

Dude, if you buy the Black Shark 2 (not the upgrade) or any other module, you don't need to buy anything else. You do need however to install DCS World which is the base program.

There is absolutely no reason to buy the Black Shark 2 upgrade + Black Shark 1. Black Shark 2 upgrade is worth only for owners of BS1 as at full price is cheaper then BS2 (but BS1 + BS2upgrade is more expensive). Sometimes (sales) BS2 (full) is even cheaper then BS2Upgrade.

To answer your original question: to way to get BS2 cheap is to wait for a sale. There was one recently (late june) when BS2 was 16$. Watch the official forums as usually someone will announce when there's a special offer, be it on Steam, Origin, official site or somewhere else. Eventually you will find it at 20 bucks or less. A-10C was 5EUR on origin at one point.

DCS: P-51D Mustang
Su-25: DCS Flaming Cliffs
We plan to release A-10A: DCS Flaming Cliffs for Steam on 16 August 2013.

The Steam version of DCS World is unique in that all DLC purchases through it will direct users to the Steam store. As such, the updates for Steam products works a bit different. We have set up 'semi-automatic' updating for the Steam version - the updates themselves will be delivered by the Steam.

We do not believe it is possible to move DCS products purchased outside of Steam into Steam.

I'm not sure what Wags means by available on Steam soon because the only thing I can find on store.steampowered.com is BS1, no other DCS products aside from some trailers.

Thanks for the link. However, 40 dollars at dcs.com is still cheaper (30 euro) than 40 euro minus 10% at steam. Guess I better wait for a discount.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll be trying it out once I'm home in two days. I'm not located in the UK tho but I'll see if I can get it to work.
