Much to the disgust of my children I have become a golfing adict! biggrin

I try to get out to my club as often as I can which is quite lucky because I literally live right next door to the 10th tee and the course I play has some pretty awesome holes!

Here's a drive on the challenging 16th tee!

And heres one I prepared earlier, this time including all shots to par! smile

And finally, a rarity for this double/triple bogey golfer...a birdie! biggrin

And yes, before you golfing law pedant nazi's get going...I know the pin is in the hole! I couldnt be arsed pulling it out as this was a practice round and anyway, yo mommas dress you funny!

Anyway, anyone else adicted to this old persons game (according to my kids)??? smile

Regards

My dad is a PGA golf pro and he tried a few times, but I never got into it... not enough patience. Maybe in 15-20 years or so.

He's retiring in about a month.

My parents were big time golfers...converted our front yard in to a driving range (there was a farmers paddock next to our house) and putting green and I remember once dad hooking a tee shot in to a friends car...left a hell of a dent in it (this was in the day when cars were made of steel, not 1mm thick aluminium! smile

Where are your guys dads playing these days? Anywhere in Florida?

I live in the Sarasota Florida area and play as often as I can too. Actually in the airport now after 3 days in NC playing 54 holes with my dad for his 76th birthday. Thats one of the great things about golf, it transcends generations.

Played here Saturday,. Check it out! Just Awesome: Tobacco Road

Love the game as well. While in college I worked as an assistant golf pro in Myrtle Beach before moving on for better opportunities smile

Started tagging along with my dad as a kid and became serious about it at around 12 years of age. Started playing in local junior tourney's as a kid and joined the HS golf team (giving up baseball). Great game but can also make you want to tear your hair out.

From a recent golf trip, Number 18 at Harbor Town in Hilton Head SC. This is where a yearly PGA tourney is held. For you golfers who follow the PGA you will notice the red and white striped lighthouse.

Was supposed to play up there years ago on a golf trip but the weather ended up cancelling it. Always wanted to play tobacco road.

Mail, how long have you been playing? The way your post came across it almost seems like you recently started to play or have been playing more often than you normally would. If so, you have a nice swing.

P.S

Sorry everybody for posting a lot on this topic but I love golf wink Before I moved from Myrtle to Charleston for government work and out of the golf industry, I was playing 3-4 times a week (when you work at a course its easy to do). Now, not so much now that I have to pay for it smile I like a topic something I am passionate for that is outside of simming.

Really fun! Unusual hole setups and layouts and really well run. If you get out that way, you have got to play it.
Not far from Pinehurst too!

Congratulations on finding something that gives you meaning. If you play your cards right, you can pursue this game until you die.

Not feeling too old...

About 10 years ago I played an average of two or three rounds per week for two years. The problem...I hit a wall and never gained any ground on my scores. I could barely break the century mark for 18 and got discouraged so I quit. Still have my clubs and go out and whack some balls maybe once or twice a year but I don't expect anything other than a good walk in a park chasing my ball.

Could be that by the 9th hole I've usually had 3-4 beers and that's about the time my game goes south...lol.

Section...you got it right. Ive only just taken it up seriously and joined my first ever golf club in April this year. I dabbled a bit when we lived in NZ but never ever did anything seriously.

Have been doing ok, got a 2nd at the end of July in one of our stableford comps (and a nice little 2nd place cheque!) and have had a string of top 10 finishes with lots of "could have beens" smile

However the handicap is still at 28 but hey, Im loving the sport...although I cant even bribe my kids with a 10% cut of my winnings. They could have made an easy tenner last month! smile

Ive got a couple weeks off at the end of August and have booked in to pretty much all the comps over that period plus the family is out of the country from the morning of 28 September through to end of October...I shall be getting as much golf in over that period before the winter sets in proper! biggrin

BTW, Im off to Woburn next month on invitation...thats pretty much the only way Id ever play somewhere like Woburn! I love the sport BUT I dont love it so much to spend several hundred pounds of my own money for a round (and a ton of lost golf balls!)!! smile

That's my problem, I've tried it a few times, just not my cup of tea.
