Hey, at least one kid your daughter's hanging out with is trying to make good on it, that's something.

You may have a problem prosecuting the perp, if your daughter had legal access...keys...to the house, and that is how he gained entry, with her permission. A lot would depend on what your daughter said in her statement, or to the guys lawyer.

Don't think you have much of a case....except larceny, and with her testimony on his side, you may not even have that.

I'd change the locks..... wink

I'd move on....it's over, no big loss, lesson learned.

Wow. If this is true than the American "justice" system is far more broken than I imagined.

Meanwhile, the jails are overpopulated with pot smokers.

About a dozen questions popped in my mind but I can't bring myself to ask them. I just hope that the real picture is not as messed up as the scenario that's forming in my mind. I hope that you took her keys because of the party and not because of how he gained entry.

Not sure what it is...maybe just butting heads with authority, but every cop's or preacher's daughter I've ever known have been "troubled". Most grow out of it though, from the one's I know.

Sorry Magnum, when we were burglarized 2 years ago they took similar stuff, my Nikon D70 +$1000 lens, my Uber2 NXT Cougar, and most importantly coins and proofs that were purchased on important dates( sentimental stuff). I found the pun posted my camera on craigslist, the police worked with me and visited the guy but he had already sold the camera and they couldn't verify the evidence. Insurance paid for about half the price of what was stolen.
But like you said, its all minor stuff, you just want to catch the perp. Your daughter may see the light in time, this generation has to prove right and wrong themselves, they will not take instruction about it. Good luck busting this punk.

Don't burn the bridge Chuck. Yeah, she may be screwing up, but let her know you're there if she needs you. You can lecture her till the end of time, but it won't do any good until she's ready to listen. FWIW

You can do everything right and still get a bad kid. My brother-in-law raised their 1st two kids (of 3) the same and the oldest is a total loser (started with pot including growing for legal dispensaries; graduated to oxy including dealing it). Middle kid is a saint, going to college, etc.

And there's me - my parents were pretty much hands off (literally & figuratively). I started hanging out with some bad kids but thankfully a good kid moved in 2 doors down and I stayed away from the dark side after that but it could have easily gone the other way.

Kids screw up Magnum (mine is three so I know I can't relate) I did my share of stupid things that drove my parents nuts when I was a teen. I know its not my place to comment on your relationship with the daughter but like Nixer says don't burn any bridges. Kids grow up and realize at some point that they've made mistakes and the learn valuable life lessons from them (I know I did). And in the end they're your kids.

This is coming from someone who had a really bad relationship with my strict Dad and good relationship with my carefree Mom as a kid. Now as an adult I have a better relationship with the old man than Mom (and I'm much wiser).

PS - I never got in any trouble with the law.......

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

Stole the picture for bragging rights...little idiot never thought about how incriminating it would be if found in his possession.

Because he probably squealed like the pig he resembles, and the guys who bought it wanted to claim ignorance of it being stolen goods and weren't going to protest its repossession.
