I enjoyed the short time I spent with the Rising Storm beta. Got me wanting more WW2 action. Was thinking of picking that and this one up when I get some play cash in my pocket.
What I really want is that D-Day expansion. I want a Sherman! Is the tank combat any good? Do you operate them from inside the tank or is it third person. I've never seen an interior shot. That's why I ask. How about those P-47's? Are they any fun. Decent cockpits?
Is the single player any good? If I can't find any on-line games can I still play alone and enjoy it? Is there still interest out there? I'd hate to buy it , only to have it die. Still, if it has a decent off line campaign, who cares.
Lots of questions I know. Hope someone can answer them.

I don't think you are going to have any fun in SP.

I gave my copy away to someone on here.I made sure when I posted it I didn't put a senders address on it so they couldn't return it. biggrin

I think it's worth getting. I, and many other SimHQers, have been having fun with it for over a year. To be honest, I haven't really played the stock single player much. I guess it's so-so. I play it for the multiplayer. There are some user made missions over at Mission Repository that will probably enhance the user experience.

The tank combat can be good. Nice long slug fests. We have some player vs player tank matches on our server are pretty fun. I haven't flown the planes that much to give much of a review on them. I'm not much of a flyer. They're basic arma-type planes, with no clickable cockpits, etc.

I think interest in Iron Front will pick up, when/if the unofficial iron front mod/patch comes out. link

If you're on the fence about this, then I would hold off until it comes on sale again, but I think it's worth picking up. I've played over 160 hours. Particularly if you think you want to do multiplayer with us on Saturdays. The multiplayer experience here at SimHQ is excellent, IMO.

Here are some screenshots.

Well, thank you very much for the screenshots. My interest is piqued (did I spell that correctly?) but maybe waiting for another sale would be a good idea. Does Steam do Father's Day sales?
I went to that modding site and was reading everyones wish list. Nobody wants an American tank destroyer? Boy I'd love to be able to operate an M-18 in a game, somewhere. I'd take an M-10, too. Anyway, thanks for the info, and I may pick this up for some on-line fun.
By the way, Chucky, was it just the SP aspect of the game that made you get rid of it. Is there anything about the game that that you thought was good?

Yes,that was why I got rid of it.

To be honest I was never a fan of ARMA and I don't know why I thought that a mod using the same engine was going to play any differently. It was the content that interested me.

Once I saw a few AAR's and videos of the guys on here playing MP I sort of wished I had kept it.

Buy it for MP and preferably in a sale as Saghen pointed out.

I cant condone giving these guys any money after they screwed over the community on the mods issue. The game itself is OK and the tank combat is pretty damn good mind you but the devs were pretty large dicks and there are other things to spend my money on.

I believe that you are blaming the wrong groups of people entirely with regards to the mods and being "dicks". The publishers controlled the license with BIS, preventing open modding. They were also the ones who forced the long periods of silence / patches.

yup, most the screwing have been from the publishers and BIS, not the actually dev team.

and is it worth picking up?? for MP with a group i say it is. However if you intended to only play single player .. then no its not, the arma engine and single player just dont mix well!

Nope, they knew about it long before the release and purposely didnt state it because they knew it would hurt their sales.

Based on the ARMA engine so if your a tweaker as much as a player (Which you may be based on your MSFS interest?) then its a no brainer. The editor alone is worth the price IMO - No other game in history so far has enabled me to make as much fun as the OFP/ARMA engine has with the editor.

Watch the soviet storm documentary on youtube (17 hour long episodes) then be inspired to load up IF, a quick few mins in editor and just watch it all play out.

Is this one still going?

I tried it when it came out and it was very buggy.
Was not impressed by the weapon actions either compared to RO2.

it's still a bit buggy, but they release several patches, which improved things. It's quite playable, especially in multiplayer.

I wouldn't call it s strong online population, there are currently only 20 or so people online right this moment. However there are still organised groups of people that play at certain times of the week on the game, which is a lot more fun than a random group of people on Iron Front.

If you are willing to tag a long with a group the game is great online.
