This sim is all about J-11(su27 Chinese version). To my surprise, it's made by only ONE Chinese young man, yes, only one.

Pls download the following DEMOs to see this sim by yourself, but don't forget to tell me your impressions.

DEMO 1.0

netplay version

Eye Candy (Dx8 is required and pls use F12 to change resolution)

Remember, it's still early days, don't expect too much. And the designer is in need of 3D ship models. If you can help him, pls mail to hh819@371.net

Now, let's try it!

That looks like SSI's Su-27 Flanker 1.x cockpit with some new kinda terrain underneath it.

Cheers

Ah, so they're reverse-engineering older Western products! Typical communist practice!

I would sort of hope that a SU-27 sim would resemble another SU-27 sim if they are both going for a similar level of realism. They are very similar based on this pic, so I do see your point.

Jedi .. be nice. Next thing you know someone will remind us how we came to this country and stole someone elses land.

Indeed... it does appear to use artwork from Su-27 Flanker. I also enjoyed the theme music from Terminator 2, Airwolf, and the X-Files that this "developer" borrowed.

Not surprising it is from China where copyrights and trademarks are ignored all the time.

I highly recommend that our artwork NOT be used without our permission if this is to be a commercially released product.

I don't think this could even be sold anyplace that had copyright laws. Granted, China is a multi billion person market but what is their total money output for computer games?

What I worry more about is pirated copies of modern and up to date sims getting burned and distributed. I would worry about that happening in China but none of us really have to go farther than someone we already know I bet. I know I can. It is too bad that pirating software is as commonplace as taping HBO anymore.

Who knows, maybe this game is just using the Flaker 1.x arwork as a placeholder until they can engineer something better. If not, maybe some Chinese players will play this game and become interested in the latest SSI offering.

Has anyone downloaded and tried that demo yet?

I have not, but I'll make a few rash, unsupported judgments.

Although they copied the artwork, they haven't copied the ability to show moving, or working instruments (unless the plane in that screenshot has suffered a catastrophic failure that has taken out every instrument except the HUD, and managed to knock off the needles from the instruments.. *cough*).

Moreover, this “flight simulation” appears to be stuck inbetween two pool tables. Flat sky and terrain, which appears to be simply texture mapped. Not much a step above Su-27 1.0-1.5.
I wonder what kind of performance the screenshot producer is actually getting, 5.23 or 129 FPS.

I do not think SSI should feel threatened by this, as competition at least. I would see what could be done about the 'borrowed' artwork.

Regarding piracy in China, I do not think there is anything game producers can do to prevent it. Pirates produce "cracks" to circumvent all types of copy write protection schemes, and most end up hurting the legitimate user more than the illegal user (i.e. B17-II). And such piracy is much more wide spread than just China, basically the whole Pac Rim is rampant with it, same with Eastern Europe and the CIS.

As I know, in China, there are also many SSI fans. But what they own, especially F2, are almost all pirated copies. Because F2 is never
published in China, and the price may be a little too high for Chinese compared with the very cheap pirated copy. So under such conditions, what they will choose is quite obvious.

Ehhmmm..... Guys? Maybe I'm missing something (don't bother to answer that one), but to my not so humble opinion it does completely NOT look like the 1.x cockpit.

...I'm also wondering (just genuine interest), if, for example, I want to make the cockpit of the Patriot to be included in Falcon 4 or so (unlike popular belief, the Patriot is not computer-guided. In fact, a suicidal leprechaun guides the missile to its target), and I start making this cockpit in Paint Shop or so, would I be violating copyright laws? After all, even the original cockpit (also for other aircraft, obviously) is the "intellectual property (correct term??) from it's original designers.

Cheers,

Gert

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

If the work of copyrighted material is used to create a product and then sent to market, then it is theft! If this person is using work from Flanker 1.xx and then reselling it, he is breaking the law. In the USA. I can't speak of eleswhere, it is legal to make backup copies of Software for your own personal use. You may not sell, or give away copies of such software. If and when you sell or give away original copies, all backup copies must be destroyed. China has a major Pirate Software Problem. Anyone that chooses to participate in the buying and selling of such software is nothing more then a thief! I have no idea what the Situation of the Designer is who has created this Sim, if he is doing it with all his own work, more power to him. I wish him the best! If he is using someone elses hard work to profit for himself. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! Nuff' said!

I am Chinese SU27 game designer.
I should say:
1. I make the Chinese SU27 game just for hobby, not for business by now. I have not much time to produce music\F16 3D MODEL\COCKPIT,
so I "theft" the SSI' Flanker 1.5's COCKPIT,
but the su27 model is mine (look image above).
if some corp. invest my game. I do remake the music\F16 3D MODEL\COCKPIT.

2. exceptmusic\3D MODEL\COCKPIT I do all other things like plane aerodynamics\ missile aerodynamics and control\especially fighter attack AI!

3. I want become Chinese SSI¡¡

Well, Chinese SSI (Matt, do you have any branch in China?), show my respect to you at first.

Second, do you think you can finish a sim like Flanker 2 or even Flanker 1.x just by yourself? I think it's a huge project. what can we expect from your incoming game? Real FM? Real sensor and weapon system? Or real battle field? Tell me your goal, you have a goal, right? I need more detail about your product.

Yellow Sea,

As long as you are not using our proprietary material for a profit, I wish you the best of luck in your efforts.

Good luck Yellow Sea, I hope you're as successful as the Battlefront Software duo.

A single person has a chance of succeeding in the market if they put out a high quality product.

Just make sure you do it nice and legal like

Edit - Note to self: Don't try and think at 1:15 in the morning.
