Here's my favorite Atlas-RS 4xLL build.

Here is my rs:

<a href="http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=18&l=55cb2af1e7eb3c41a9d5ef77b3909cfe736a8aaf">AS7-RS</a>

It is slower and it's range is shorter but it rearranges other mechs grills pretty nicely.

Stalkers

My favorite is a 5S, due to the hardpoints and the option for 2 AMS systems--highly effective. Otherwise, a 3F, due to hardpoints and an extra 25-30° of twist. This is the one you see the most and it's the easiest to get used to, due to the twist.
Not a whole lot of difference in what I run, just slight variations of LL/ML, SRM/SSRM. Mainly just a matter of figuring out the best layout to cram in the weapons, group tight and run the lowest heat possible. Hardly rocket science, but here you go:

The 5M isn't bad for packing a punch and managing heat well, but not the best hardpoint layout IMO. This is my bread and butter build, the idea I start with and then make minor changes. Also, probably the easiest to run heat-wise until you get your perks doubled after mastering the class. Same build can be pretty much applied to any variant, just not with as nice a fit.
Stalker 5M: 4LL, SRM4 SRM6
Heat: 1.32
FP: 51
Armor: 496
Groups: 1: left 2 LL 2: right 2 LL 3: SRM's
Gives a nice punch from the SRM's, and in this build there are no missile doors to remember to open, the SRM's are stacked to save space and you get all the DHS's you can fit with no wasted space.
Drawback: STD 280 is a little slower and less heat efficient than a 300, but again, you get more DHS's.
After this, no reason to go with a 5M IMO.

My favorite 5S builds:

Stalker 5S: 5LL, 2 AMS
Groups: 1: left 2 LL 3: right 2 LL 3: torso LL
5 vs 6 LL since you can maintain fire longer mixing in that single shot 3rd group. Less alpha, but more damage in a drawn out fight. Dual AMS.
Light on armor, but only in the areas you rarely get hit in a lot. Stalkers rarely get much damage to the legs, no one has time to worry about that. LOL
Simpler, but does a lot of accurate damage.
Uses a STD 300 engine, what's in most of my Stalker builds.

Stalker 5S 3ML, 2LL, 3SRM's
I keep changing this one around. Sometimes as it is here, 3ML, 2LL and mixture of SRM4/6, other times I've got 4ML(arms) and 2LL(torso) and move the SRM's around. Good starting place if you want to run more SRM's. Dual AMS and 300 engine.
*Right now I've got this with 4ML, 2LL, 4 SSRM's with some promising results, especially for taking out the lights.

3F main build:
Stalker 3F
More of the same, but on the twisty platform.
4LL 2xSRM6
300 engine
*Currently I've swapped the SRM's for 4 SSRM's on one of my 3F's.

If you're good with heat (1.17), here's the big alpha (68):
Stalker 3F
2 LL
4 ML
2 SRM, 2 SRM6
Really not that bad with heat until you unleash the SRM's. Might want a coolshot with this.
Groups 1: 2LL (torso) 2: 4ML (arms) 3: SRM's

I don't bother with the other Stalker variants, I don't care for the hardpoint options. I like having 2 3F's and 2 5S's at the ready with the slightly different layouts and I keep the one base 5M build as the best general purpose build that I don't ever alter.

Catapult

All I run now with the Catapult are 2 K2's, I ditched the others. Very similar, I just can't decide which layout I like the most, so I bounce back and forth.

The faster build, about 82kph with speed tweak:
CPLT-K2 AC10 build
2 AC10
4 ML
Groups: 1: AC10's 2: arm ML's 3: all 4 ML's
Rarely want to fire all 4 ML's with the AC10's due to heat, and not much reason for 2 groups of 2. Fire group 2, then follow with group 3 and the cool down period takes care of that. However, when out of AC ammo, it's nice to have the 4 in a single group.
Drawback: 300XL engine $$$$$$$$$$
Standard structure
DHS
AC10's are pretty tough compared to a gauss rifle

Slower, but everyone loves a gauss-cat.
CPLT-K2 gauss build
2 gauss
4 ML
Grouped same as above K2.
Endo
DHS
XL 250
I like having energy weapons to fall back on with enough power to still be effective. Sometimes I do drop 2 ML for ammo, just depends.
Even with 4ML's, heat is still just 1.3, which is pretty nice.
Drawback: 4 tons of gauss ammo can go quickly.

I've also got a Cat K2 with 2 Ultra AC5, and a bunch of other HBKs and AWSs but don't use em much if ever

Kinda pondering a DRG-FLAME for my next mech. I'm really liking the Dragon so far.

If you change your build, or add another build, let me know in a new post so I can edit the main post, or else I might miss your new build.

Personally, my builds fluctuate until I find one that works for me, then I stick with it. Fluctuating builds will be marked accordingly.

A good mix of long/medium/short range weapons if you can manage your heat with selective group and chain fire.
The SRMs make a good punch when you're waiting for the heat to go down on Tourmaline/Caustic.

Here are the 2 Atlases I'm playing around with. I like them so far, and glad to ditch the missiles for a change and stick to lasers and AC20.
The RS in particular has very good heat control, and with a STD 350, it's close to as fast as an Atlas is going to go. Neither has a huge alpha (for at Atlas), but being beam and ballistic, you put it all together in a tight spot.

Atlas AS7-RS
3LL, AC20
Grouped 1: 2LL right arm 2: AC20 3: LL left arm
Heat 1.39
Speed 56.7
Armor 560
FP 47

Atlas AS7-D
2LL, AC20, 2MPL
Grouped 1: 2LL 2: AC20 3: 2MPL
Heat: 1.33
Speed 52.6
Armor 512
FP 50

Why do you have HS in your arms instead of your torso?

There's one on the left torso, no room on the right. I spread them out so they get taken out slower in all builds. In this case, there's more armor on the arm than front torso. An atlas or stalker usually gets targeted on the torso before anything else, so the arms usually last longer. Slightly better place to have a 2nd DHS IMO. With the 350, you get 4 to drop on the engine too though.

Sometimes I will do the same thing. If I have 2 large lasers in the arm and loose it, it doesn't matter if I loose the heatsink also. Allows for bigger weapons in the torso, like the ac20 in my RS.

Yeah people don't seem to shoot the arms on Assaults much.

I often run a heatsink or two on the same arm that has the LLs and extra UAC5 ammo on the same arm as the UAC5, the thinking being that if I lose the arm and the weapon then the loss of the corresponding heatsink or ammo is fine.

Here are my favorite Centurion builds:

CN9-AL XL275 2xLL 2xML 2xSRM4 98kph Love the amount of damage that the 2xLL and 2xML give you while running around at 98kpk and then when you are close the SRM4s deals extra hurt to finish them off. I killed a fresh Stalker the other night by sneaking up behind him and 2 alpha strikes with this.

CN9-A XL275 AC2 2xML 3xSRM6 98kph Fast platform with AC/2 used mainly for long range and for trolling while you get in close for the SRM6 punch.

The Yen-Lo of course is a ton of fun, here is my build
Yen-Lo XL300 AC20 2xML 106kph

I run basically the same cents except...

My AL is a long range sniper with a surprise...2 ERPPCs 2 SRM6s 84/92 kph. Runs a little hot.

I see you use an extra HS, compared to my build. You take the weight out of your armor.

have you noticed that you OH at all? I have never overheated after I upgraded to DHS.

I may have overheated once or twice (in that video vs NGNG in fact), after getting beaten up pretty bad. Otherwise, I fire with abandon!
Normally the ac20 is gone by that point and the engine heatsinks are plenty for the 2 MPL's.

You should get Abandon to help you fire at Will. I hear he isn't that great a shot, but he really keeps the energy up.

Will though, poor guy, he's just a sponge. Always getting picked on.

Finally! A Dragon I like. Got 5 kills with this in a test round.

DRG-1C

4xMPL
1xGauss, 3 tons ammo
DHS
endo

Got SICK AND TIRED of getting killed in the right torso (in particular for some reason) with the XL engine. 80 kph just isn't fast enough to get away with the XL.
Screw the speed, 60.7 in this one (before tweak). Fairly tough now and the MPL's ruin peoples' day.

Glad you like it. But what dark god did you have to summon to place a 5th MPL on that chassis?

Great, we need more Dragon pilots, I was starting to feel left out of the 'wang club.

Interesting. The thing's CT is so huge, it is typically the first to go. Hence always throwing an XL in.

Glad it worked out for you. Tell me when you run it and I will pull out my AC40 Cat I am building.

I just need to buy the engine and it is good to go.

I mastered using my Wang, so it is sitting in mothballs at the moment.

I only pull it out when I need to earn a few extra c-bills.

Oops, 4 MPL. Typo.
Not sure why the RT torso was so vulnerable. Probably something to do with how I turn, but I got that more often than the CT or LT. The side torsos are pretty small too.
Not sure what 3rd dragon to level up.

Decided to swap out to a STD on my other Dragon for now too. As bad as my luck has been lately, I need the security.
The 5N
DRG-5N
2xERLL
1xGauss, 4 tons ammo
STD 240
endo
ferro

Even though it's short range, I like that 1C more.

Yeah, we're usually good at math. Comes from counting all of those pregnant teens and keeping up with our weight figures.

Now I'm thinking that I should get the Flame and run this build on it. I could get my 3rd Dragon ranked up, sell both of the others. I could get where I've got a hero mech in each of my favorite classes so I'm always in the money. Then stop with the premium time each month.
Already have an Atlas, Heavy Metal, eye'ing the Misery, maybe a Flame, have the Yen Lo...

When will there be a hero Catapult? That would finish out all the mechs I care about.

Came up at some point, about the twist on the Centurion. The Yen Lo does have a better twist, kind of like the 3F Stalker does (+25°), and to a lesser extent, the Misery (+5°).

At this point I'm just glad I don't have to use the little blue rounds to keep my ac20 runnin'. Unfortunately I have played with my Wang so much that I'm having trouble seeing my targets.

See, this is what happens when the wife goes out of town for a night.

My new Flame:
FLAME
1xAC-20, 4 tons ammo
4xML
heat: 1.4
DHS, endo
STD 250, runs 67.5

My new Misery: eek
MISERY
1xAC-20, 4 tons ammo
2xLL
3xML
DHS
STD 285
Heat 1.28

Misery variant...seems a little better due to heat and speed:
MISERY
2 x LPL
2 x ML
1 x AC20, 3 tons ammo
STD 300, adds another DHS
FP: 50
armor 464
heat: 1.34
Spd: 57.1 (before tweak)

Heat 1.34

Sorry man, tried to build it for you and got close but adding Ferro would cost money to do in the client, with 11 DHS instead of 12 (the only diff that ferro would allow) it has a heat value of 1.19.

Should be 1.24 on heat.
Had a build on there that's in my garage, dropped DHS's until 37% and matched in the garage.
FYI: used to put you at 1.3, looking at my old notes. banghead

You can do a free build estimate in the client, including DHS, ferro, endo etc, just don't save.

Yah, I would have done that when I got home from work, but I don't have an AL chassis, so I though one of my bro's could help me out!

One of your bro's with an AL is stuck at work, reading these forums to pretend like he's busy, just waiting for 4 pm to get here, otherwise he would have helped out.

Ah cool, they must've changed that in the UI, they used to require that you "save" for the DHS/Endo/Ferro to take effect on the mech, I actually lost some good money thanks to that.

It does trick you since you can't click on the body panel to move on. You have to click on the weapons/ammo etc tabs to move on.
On the last UI a while back a purchase was a purchase though. LOL

Stalker Misery build I've settled on for now.
Can make it more powerful, but this seems the best blend of having playable heat and speed, as well as packing a punch.

MISERY
1 x AC20, 4 tons ammo
2 x LPL
2 x ML
STD 300
heat: 1.31
FP: 50
armor: 464
speed: 57.1 (before tweak)
DHS (17), endo
1 x coconut monkey

Here is my latest.

I swapped out the SRM6's for 4's and upgraded to ERLLAS to give myself a little more punch in the current long distance meta-game.

AS7-D-DC

That's what I'll be using for a while.

So this one worked pretty well. Could get better if they buff LRM damage a smidge...posted:

Here's my first mech. It may seem relatively unassuming, but it's useful at all ranges, and it never has to stop firing because it cools well.
STK-5M

Once I get another Stalker with 6 Energy slots, I will see about making the 5M some sort of missile/rocket boat.

I really like the Stalker, just picked up a Centurion and a Jenner last night to see what its like to be in something thats not a big slow bullet magnet.

These are my 2 newest mechs that I'm running:

Highlander HGN-732 PPC/Gauss/2ML/SRM/LRM

On the BJ1 I've been going back and forth between Gauss and AC20 - either one works well

Updated Misery Build.
Ran with an ER PPC, which really isn't bad heat-wise, but I opted to stick with a regular PPC since it runs so incredibly cool like that. Only 48 damage, but the alpha is accurate and devastating. Really changed my opinion of running this mech.

MISERY
1 x AC20, 3 tons ammo
2 x LL
1 x PPC
STD 300
heat: 1.38
FP: 48
armor: 464
speed: 57.1 (before tweak)
DHS (17), endo
1 x coconut monkey

It was fun/profitable to make them fight in the shade.

Gonna try this one tonight...

I never put up my main Blackjack DC build, but it's still running strong.
This one (DC) is one of my top 4 favorite mechs in the game:
BJ-1DC
Small version of my Flame, basically.

The fast Blackjack, kind of a support mech with the TAG and ERPPC to help the LRM mechs:

I built this yesterday, thinking it may be fun for a couple rounds. Surprisingly successful, I will probably keep it like this: STK-5S

This has been my go to mech, and is the only mech I have a 2 to 1 K/D ratio in. It's fast, NEVER overheats and can bring the pain: YEN-LO-WANG

My current "Flaming Surprise"

Flame - XL330 1xUAC5 2xLL 2xML

A 98kph mech that really packs a punch, the 2xLL reach out and give a suntan from a distance, and if they stand still or get mad and close in, the UAC5 and 3 tons of ammo gives them a sucker punch. The 2xML is only used when the UAC5 jams if I abuse it.

My only real suggestions are:
1. move one ton of ac2 ammo from left arm to right (1 ton in each)
2. Might want to move some armor from back torso to front...DPS mechs can't do as much torso twisting

I've been curious about the AC2/UAC5 combo...let us know how it goes...

You could put 4 tons of ammo in the feet and one more in the head to cut down on the possibility of an ammo crit blowing the weapons off.

Also, if you go 4 AC5 instead of mixed loadout along with double heat sinks, the damage per sec goes WAAAAAY up with no uAC5 jamming

Can't comment on the mixed weapons, but I've seen others run that and it seems to work well. I agree on moving the ammo. I always fill the legs first and mix it up, never carry all of one kind in the same spot.
Re: back armor...I don't have a single mech with more than 18 on the back. Rarely ever taken out from the rear just the same.

I need to try some new builds on my Firebrand. The ac40 isn't as tough as you'd think. It stands out like an Atlas and people come running over to take you out. LOL Still fun, but attracts too much attention.

The atlas looks good Feet, just hot! Comes with the territory though I guess.

My CTF-1X. Basic completed. I really like this mech.
CTF-1X

Just bought a CTF-4X and have only played a few rounds, but I like it so far. Slow, but lot's of Daka! I never come close to over heating, but I do run low on ammo sometimes. I might trade a heatsink for some more ammo...

I'd probably ditch 1 ton of the AMS ammo, possibly the whole system. The only mech I run AMS on is a stalker 5S, since it has 2 AMS systems. That's about all that really does much good. Even then I normally just have 1 ton of ammo. Some weight to play with that way. Might consider 4 ML instead of 2ML/2MPL. The range is so short on the pulses, that you miss opportunities to do damage. They do an extra point when they hit, but you might miss several chances to do damage due to the limited range. In the end, doing less damage total.
Large pulse lasers however, they do have a decent range, just beyond that of a ML, so I do like using those when possible.

At some point try running dual AC20's and 2ML (or 4ML, if you run less AC20 ammo). People complain about them, but it's a fun build and very effective.

Malibu, I put together that 1X and have enjoyed it. Much like my Dragon and Blackjack, but with an extra ML. thumbsup

I run that kind of set up on my Flame and Blackjack. Very effective. I'd drop a heatsink or two and max the armor--you need full armor on arms and torso areas. Min 30 or so on each leg. To use the case, you need the ammo in the same area, so move the ammo into the left torso. Add endo and you can really get the ammo and armor up there, plus a bit more engine.

Something like this:
JM6-S

Sweet. Doesn't look like much, but each mech I run with that set of weapons has always dealt a lot of damage.
I built a Jager with an ac10 and 6ML's the other day. Haven't played much with it, but seemed nice.

What did you end up with on this last night? I was thinking you had a couple of LRMs on there after a while.

I like it. Mixing the weapons goes against the grain, but I do that on my Misery too due to the heat BS.
Can I make a suggestion?

-Instead of 2 LRM10, go for 4 LRM5's. Still a 20 shot, faster cooldown, and you can open the missile doors and fire all in one pop. As it is, you'll have them firing in 2 volley's of 5 anyway since there are 5 tubes in the side pods. (There are 10 on side torsos if you want to move things around). I've got a 5S I'm running and enjoying with the 4xLRM5. The quick cooldown lets you keep a lot in the air.

-I know you probably specifically want that ERPPC, but just for consideration, I moved some stuff around and swapped it for a 2nd LL. Larger engine mainly for the heatsinks, but a bit faster too.
STK-5M

Is a 5M just what you have? The 3F has more twist and better hardpoints. A 5S has better hardpoints, but the same twist as 5M, and 2 AMS systems.

Yup, I think I'm gonna drop the ERPPC > Large Laser and upgrade the Engine 255 > 270. I'll consider getting a 3F after tonight, I need more CB's...

Might as well update with my current favorite Stalker 5S build:

STK-5S

6xML
4xLRM5, 5 tons of ammo
Engine: STD 310 for 65 KPH
Heat: 1.32
Armor: 480
Alpha: 50, whatever that's worth with LRM's and ML's LOL

Fast cooldown on the missiles for good firing rate, low heat. 6 ML's are nothing to sneeze at up close. thumbsup

Update on my 2xAC10, 2xML Cat K2.
Heat is 1.27, but firing the AC10's together, then pairing the upper ML's and the lower in a 3rd group, it just does extremely good with heat. Having very good results with it, just don't push it in close too long due to the XL. Deals nice accurate damage though, decent ammo and still does 20 pts damage after the ammo runs out with the MLs.

Here is the Jaeger build I was running last night...

JM6-S

2 lbx10 (6 tons ammo)
4 mlas
300xl (82 kph w/ tweak)

Very first shot from this mech kill Clydewinder. At that point I knew I had something. It is a decent all around mech but shines against mechs with armor damage. Lbx has a crit bonus.

that's very similar to my Ilya Muromets build... 2 LB10X, 2 ER LARGE, 280XL

Lasers to soften the armor, shotguns to chew up the tasty innards

On to the ORION...Here's what I've been running lately:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=98&l=cf91d7c6255c41ccb33bd5e75e37794477a2fe2d

I picked up the K, V, and the M but the M is my favorite. Good punch at most engagement ranges, decent armor, and an AC20.

I'm running XL engines in the other 2 but this one needs the standard due to the torso-mounted autocannon.

Here's a really good HBK-4P build I've stumbled into when I finally decided to elite my Founder's Hunchie, it turns out the 4P I bought to help do that has become one of my favorite mechs with a ghost-heat modified Swayback config:
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=2&l=5876401365e0a5353ce98ac34ec3d2ea32d771ea

STD275
7xML
Endo
19 DHS

Been using it the last few days with two fire groups, one with the 4xML in the torso, and one with 3xML in the arms/head which swivel, and I just alternate the two fire groups with a slight delay to avoid ghost heat, with the new increased torso twist in the Hunchie you can shoot Jenners and Spiders that chase you, and this really packs alot of damage 200-400avg rounds with a couple of 800-900 lucky rounds. Also with SpeedTweak it runs at 98kph.

You can substitute one or two ML for DHS depending on how hot you are comfortable running it, for me 7 seems to be perfect balance to rarely overheat even in a furball, but if you are more disciplined the 9xML config packs even more punch.

Updated Misery build, finally got one I like. After a lot of rebuilds, I settled back on the 4xLL, but with the shotty to finish them off.

After Feet's success the other night with crazy damage, I figured I had to give this a shot. I didn't want to tear down my Jager, so I put it on a K2. Still soft in the CT & cockpit, being a catapult so probably not as effective, but it still did a ton of damage. Had a good time with it, so I'll probably be running this build on my K2 for quite a while. I had dual AC10's at one point with 4xML, but this seems more effective since the heat is better so more ML firing and that crit bonus.

Finally came up with a Battlemaster build that I like:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=119&l=a5ef71fd01efb3373f24ae85cfdeb4cd500d50c7

Going to experiment with going endo-steel/std eng but I suspect it will be pretty much the same.

Three ACs on the left arm is just vicious.

I like that build, Brennus. It's refreshing to see a CTF-3D that's not just configured as a sniper.

Fun to watch! I think I prefer the 3D over the Ilya though, only 'cuz it gives me the vertical option. I also sacrifice more armor in favor of tonnage for ammo. He ran out of ammo rather quickly in the second battle, but he was also runnin' 3 LB's opposed to just 2. The only real difference in his load-out, as compared to mine, is his third LB, where as I run w/ 4 MED's and 2 LB's. Still, very effective up close, and as he said, just straight up fun to run!

That's a good build. I've got one similar on a 5M, but instead of 2 LRM10's, I went with 4 LRM5's. Same amount of missiles in the air, but you fire noticeably faster. A bit more heat though.

A fun FIREBRAND 2xLB10X 2xERLL build...

The high 2xERLL in the arms makes nice sniping in the initial standoff engagement, and then the 2xLB10x are good for crits cleanup and legging lights that come in close.

I love the ctf.

I run 2x,3d,and 4x

My 4x used to be 2xlbx, 2x med pulse, 2x machine guns but I have just changed him out for 2xac5 and 2x ac2 full fibre ferrous armour and bigger engine.

The lbx has a surprisingly very long range.

Some good ShadowHawk builds that I found work well for me and do damage above their Medium size:

Fast Chainsaw Dakka:
SHD-2H XL295 3xAC2 (substitute XL275 if you want one extra ton of ammo)

Fast Light Killer and Brawler:
SHD-2D2 XL275 LB10X + 4xSSR +2xMPL

Fast Med Brawler and Support
SHD-5M XL300 2xAC5 2xML

I've been having some great success with this Atlas-K build so I thought I'd post it here:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=25&l=c92595f3d5c0399b7b29835dc3c65013bf120de6

Despite the lack of long range weaponry, the dual AMS keeps it alive long enough to get in close for some close range brawling fun

Yep, a good build. I've got the same on my founders, but ERLL instead of LPL. Without the dual AMS ability, I went with a STD360.

Picked up the AWS-Pretty Baby in the hero mech sale. After a few variations, I've come up with this build for it, which isn't all that far from the stock loadout:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=58&l=07a0b1d8bae2553ea83d8e646bca0362cb0e1b67

This mech is a fast striker / LRM skirmisher that is VERY unforgiving... one false move and you are in a world of hurt. You can swap the XL380 engine for the XL400 at the cost of a few heatsinks but I've found that the extra heat sinks are more advantageous than the extra 5 kph the larger engine gives.

MISERY. wink
Run without the center ML for better cooling. The 310STD is very nice to have in a big mech.

At the risk of facing infinite ridicule, I am going to post this here:

Awesome 8V

I had long considered the 8V to be the weakest of the AWS mechs, but in my pointless quest to own & master all 6 Awesomes, I came up with a build that works well and is fun to boot. With a STD300 engine it's fairly cheap to build as well ( relatively speaking )

Despite the 2 PPCs, this thing is a brawler. Need to get up close to unleash the SRMs and Large Pulse Laser. PPCs just to give you something to do while you plod toward the enemy at 66 KPH. And, a Head Flamer because, well... HEAD FLAMER! It's cool!

I suppose the more practical Mechwarrior would drop the flamer for another double heat sink.

BJ-1 AC10/ 2 MED PULSE

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=77&l=5769ab6285ba9052da842c18753385ca0c3def92

All of the Blackjacks are good in one way or another. This one is great. Fast, jump jets, good punch from AC10, and won't overheat unless you are actually standing in lava. Being able to knife-fight close in and maintain fire with the autocannon and pulse lasers really makes this mech an unexpected threat, and being a little guy doesn't draw fire from the snipers and LRM monsters on the field.

What are dragon mechs like? I'm quite tempted to buy one! My fav mechs are catapults and jenners, I enjoy being mobile and trying flanking etc! I understand the ct is an issue which don't bother me as I own a 9m smile

Dragons are difficult but rewarding. Not too diff than a catapult with that big CT. Good speed. My favs are Fang or 5N with AC2 & AC5 on one arm and 2 Med Pulse on the other, or Flame with AC10 & 4 Med Las ( or gauss & 4 ML )

The 1C is an energy-heavy variant that runs PPCs nicely in a high ridge-humping friendly shoulder.

One of the trial mechs was set up with a Gauss in one arm and 2 Large Lasers on the other. Solid build, low heat and very usable.

The arm-mounted weaponry is the real advantage that the dragon has. Quick to aim and draw a bead on target, fire, and get out of the way.

They are very XL friendly like Catapults as they tend to get CT killed more often than not. XL300 should be minimum engine for any Dragon build. - that gets you 89 KPH after speed tweak.

Dragons are very cool, but kind of hard to survive in nowadays. I used to have a lot of success in my Flame with AC20 and 4xML, STD engine. Took a hell of a beating. That nose is just such a big target though.

Here's the Timberwolf S I liked a lot last night.

TBR-S

Smurfy isn't quite matching up to the game, but that's the layout from the game.

edit: ran this with a pair of stream SRM6's and the clan targeting beagle equivalent. Worked pretty effectively!

All slots are used, Smurfy doesn't have the option for lower arm actuators, which are used on the mech.
Omnipod swap on the right torso.

I'm really tempted to get a centurion or a dragon mech, as I do not currently own a medium mech and I love being mobile! I know a dragon is actually a heavy mech but I feel it should be played like a medium! biggrin

Never tried a Centurion but Dragons are one of my favs. My usual rides are Fang and Flame but these are good. The first is actually an identical build to what I run on the Fang:

DRG-5N: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=23&l=da4195180e06d58a84e6eff32d423ba877e3db86

or

DRG-1C: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=11&l=19ae1b722d703280d931b0a24ae63cd6cbb26b83

one of the champion/trial mechs a while back was a Dragon with Gauss & 2 Large Lasers. All of the Dragons can run that build with an XL300 engine and it's a good loadout.

I would never run anything less than a 300 engine in a Dragon, personally. That gives you 81/89 kph speed.

I liked my AC20, 4ML build. It had a STD engine so it was pretty tough. Can't remember what engine, but it still ran in the upper 70's IIRC.
Only the Flame can run that though. A Blackjack can have that build too though and move faster, albeit with an XL engine.
The only problem with the Dragons that huge center torso target.

What does one do with a 400XL engine? How about this:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=119&l=d81d8b2df1abed7cdf72a9d50ba4df38a736f906

Nothing says "OH SH!T" like a 84kph Battlemaster

Brawling with flamers and machine guns at point blank in a mech with an XL engine? PURE BALLS.

the LRM Vindicator! This was the third of three Vindicators I picked up and quite a bit of fun:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=206&l=4204e9170a7079a9152d6d7e57a2bbeae433cb26

I've got the med lasers in two firing groups for left and right arms, really effective for shooting around corners with minimal exposure.

Artemis LRM15 with 6 tons of ammo and TAG is no joke.

I haven't shared a 'mech build in a while, but here is a SHD-2H I am thinking of building:

SHD-2H Triple Dakka

It combines my love for dakka with my fondness for my favorite MW1 medium 'mech.

Very effective and very cheap to build. Stock 275 STD engine. You can lose both arms and right torso and still be 100% combat effective. Laser hardpoints are high enough to snipe over most obstacles including the debris at the terra therma volcano ramps.

I see what you did there.

Here is a similar build I ran for a while. Same speed, but a touch more fragile:

Hmm... built a neat Banshee 3E last night that I did not expect to work and turned out far better than expectations.

Relatively fast for 95 tons, great on heat, and deadly with crit-seeker ballistics:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=144&l=fa6b09ea020c122fe82a76118970d806ac7dd9bc

Ghost heat be damned, I was alpha-ing those 3 large lasers all night and never shut down. Played a few rounds with Sinner, Tsumetomo, and Rolynd and was pleasantly surprised.

Here's a slight variation of the Atlas-S build I had posted in the other thread.

Basically the same but stripped the armor and ammo down a bit to fit a larger engine ( STD 340 vs STD 325 )

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=216&l=e1ce75791cbcde25059de34641bc941e6bf3fbd3

As Ranger5 said, chain-firing the SRM isn't bad on heat and the Gauss is always there for when a very low heat weapon is needed. I suspect this mech will be even better after the quirk system is implemented as PGI has indicated a willingness to toughen the Atlas side torso internals for better durability.

I'm enjoying Timberwolves with an LB5X lately, so I stuck one on my laser boat. This one is working out pretty well. It's a little on the hot side, but alternating fire between the LL's then LB5, then ML, then LB5 and so on, you can keep the fire going very nicely. JJ's too.

How about some Warhawk builds!

A variant, easy to build. 3xCLPL, 1CLB20X, 1 DHS (purchased).
Split the LPL's into 2 groups, 2 in one, 1 in the other.
This is one of those builds that's surprisingly effective. 2 back to back 900+ rounds for 6 kills.

Your basic build, but I'm enjoying the Streak 6's.

Hey strikeshadow welcome aboard!

Chainfiring the ER lasers on your 4P would be effective but you might run into some heat issues up close. You could drop down to 3 ER large and then run 4 mediums with an extra heat sink with the same tonnage. Also adding endo-steel will buy you some tons for leg armor and arm armor.

The 4H looks good but will benefit greatly when you can get double heat sinks on there.

What's your player name on MWO? We've got a fairly large group from SimHQ on my friends list, I'll add you if you want.

I've been playing with the Ebon Jaguar lately, and this has been a pretty decent build for me.

Cheap, fun, effective build for the poor neglected Blackjack 1-DC

Just got 6 kills with it on River City

New King Crab build I'm liking so far:
heat 1.31
alpha: 87
XL360 engine

KGC-000B

Or, drop 2 of the 4 MG's and a ton of ammo in favor of 2 more DH's and heat is 1.36.

I love it. That is a classic Brennus build right there.

Thanks Clyde! I was, unimpressed, w/ my initial build last night and went back to the drawing board shortly after we disconnected. I decided to add 2 MLAS's and AMS and the results, as shown above, are from a couple of live fire field tests just before I called it a night. I may tweak the armor a bit, but overall I'm pretty happy w/ the results, as I tend to choose load-outs that return the most fun from my investment, and this particular build may just yield the most fun to date!

That XL holds up long enough to get you through the round? I guess at that speed you make a tough target. I'll have to try that out, when I can afford the engine that is.

I've been running XL in all but one of my Battlemasters, no prob... but I run XL in darn near all of my mechs when I can. The advantage of the big XL engines to me is the additional heat sinks you can pack in there.

Any reason you didn't max out to the XL 400, Clyde? I'm think of buying a bigger XL for my BMs and thought should go up to a 400?

There is a pretty massive tonnage increase between the 380/390XL and the 400XL. I'd have to shave heatsinks and ammo to fit it and it seems like a good balance right now, not to mention the speed increase from 390 to 400 is pretty negligable. As it is the Battlemaster rolls at near 80kph which is Chuck Yeager speed for something that massive.

I'm running 400XL in a Banshee 3M and Atlas Boar's Head but my other XL assaults are running XL350-390 ( Victor, Awesome, Battlemaster ), and 325XL for Highlanders.

I would estimate the times I die due to CT / XL kills to be one game in 10 vs regular CT kills. The thing is pretty survivable and tanky.

The Battlemaster 2C is even more tanky with structure buffs- that thing with 4 large pulse lasers is scary. Played some rounds last night and got 5 kills several times with it.

I have the most time in my Battlemasters, by far my favorite Fun Mech. I'd love to see some of you multi-version configs, as it seemed at some point I was getting pretty well stomped a lot in that mech (my driving more than anything) gave it up to get some speed, but miss it a lot. I'll grind towards a big xl next. Thanks for the share.
