Hi ladies and gents,
We own an old and well used Dell Inspiron 6000. My kids use it mainly for small things like flash games and typing small presentations for school. Nothing too strenuous.

Recently, the laptop will power up and start working ok, but then the screen will go darrk. A reboot may or may not bring the screen back to life and sometimes it can be out for days before a hard reboot will start it working again.

After a standard google search it bore all the hallmarks of an inverter fault. I went ahead and ordered and fitted a new inverter. not a hard or expensive job. For a short while (a week or 2) this seemed to work. However, the problem has now returned.

Does anyone have any idea what could be happening with this and where i need to start looking next to resolve the problem?

Thanks
Marcus.

Well it is most likely something before the inverter getting perhaps to many volts or amps and relaying it to the inverter and possibly killing it..

Electronics can be funny and sometimes it is usually not just replacing the faulty part which is the problem.. Depending on how old it is it may just need to be replaced or get a new Laptop seems you got your moneys worth and or perhaps if you want take it to an certified electroncis repair shop..

It may cost more to fix it then to just get a new one but you never know.. if you think it is worth it go and get an estimate on a repair..
