I need help please.

I am a "virgin" when it comes to making ground vehicle models...and I'm not sure of the colour I've started with.

In the pic you can see I've used the less "sand" looking of the paints - but I'm not sure that's the right colour I'm using. The paint I'm using seems more "pinK" like the SAS used in WWII in the desert

So - am I using the wrong colour?

Hi,
By pic it looks like 1/35 Trumpeter Iraq 2003 (Op Telic) kit. I am building same one now and per pics of Challengers before they went to iraq, that yellow revell ( i think its 314) is better. I will use same one, just maybe add bit white to make it lighter as all weathering will make final look little darker. Maybe your colors are Humbrol as revell do not have 250. It matches Humbrol code. Per conversion chart, that revell 314 should be Humbrol 71. Well i suggest to use that yellow can you have on pic.

Its pretty yellow to me:

Bannockburn... seriously
I recently completed that model, and I used Humbrol 237. It's slightly less pink and more yellow. The problem with the Op Telic Challenger 2 is that they used different paints throughout the campaign.

I believe that the Revell colour is no. 14.

Hope this helps. smile

Desert Tan?

Well I have Brown Yellow - I'll paint a couple of pieces in that and see how it goes. I'm not interested in "authenticity" - so a close colour to the pics I've found on the web will do me.

I wish I had just painted it camo!

Anyway I'll try the 94 (Brown Yellow) and maybe get the 237 if the Brow Yellow aint the ticket.

The colour I'm using would be ideal for a WWII LRDG "Pinky" :-)

Thanks for the tips. I've got this, too, and it'll be the first tank I've built in about 30 years. I've no idea about modern methods for AFVs, I usually build aircraft or bikes.

I got the super-detail set with it and that doesn't look so simple, either.

I say it as I see it

Update!

Sorry - totally forgot I had posted here about this.

I have started painting this several times now. I originally used the 250 ("Pinky") and didn't like it (first pic). I then used the 94 (Brown/Yellow) and didn't like that. I then tried West Germany camo - and didn't like that.

I then bought a 121 (Pale Stone) and I'm actually happy with that colour...but I got bored doing the model (as I had painted the same bits 4 times!)

But I will get back to it at some point...but Humbrol 121 was the colour that made me think it was ok to go with that.

Well

The 121 is probably not as yellow as it should be...but it's what I went with. I was wasting too much time messing around with which colour to use - and I wasn't up to mixing...that might come when I get an airbrush.

Anyway - all hand painted so far...getting there.
