The original even got ported to the original Xbox and was amazing. A bit abbreviated, but still the best tactical shooter on console. Loved the way they handled the objectives and everyone was skinned as US, with proximity voice in another language. You actually had to keep quiet or the game would "durga durga" your voice to the enemy nearby. I couldn't really get into the pc game that came out last for some reason. Maybe they'll improve it and keep players honest somehow.
Funny watching that video that goes with AA: True Soldiers from the 360. Buggy as hell, but still had some good points. Can't remember how, but I won one of those True Heroes action figures. Just showed up in the mail for doing something or other in the game. LOL

I played a couple of times, but constantly being beat by guys with better weapons who had leveled up was frustrating so I gave up. I didn't play AA3 but AA1 and AA2 (the most popular versions) didn't have any kind of level up system for weapons. There was rank/eff. etc. but everyone got the same guns. I think you could put different mods on your M4 though on the SF's maps. You did have to complete sniper training to use a sniper rifle though.

On the Xbox version, you built up xp and applied it to 7-8 different skills. You couldn't master them all, just spread points around. Nice system, it got you to specialize some. Once you ranked up and got the special forces level you got the M4 and could outfit with the ACOG, bipod etc. It was a definite advantage on the maps that allowed you to use them.

I actually liked True Soldiers. Is Proving Grounds just for PC?

If they made America's Army 2.3 to around 2.6 with better graphics I would be thrilled but since 2.7 the game just plummeted down hill so my hopes aren't high but who knows... maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
