I just got back from Disney, and I will say this, the Star Wars "Star Tours" ride there is VASTLY improved now versus prior to the acquisition. VASTLY.

I think we need to remember that people are losing their jobs over this, which is not a good thing at all for those affected and their families. Most of whom will probably find new jobs VERY quickly. 1. They have lucas arts on their resumes. 2. Those firms licensing out star wars? They're gonna be headhunting that talent. 3. This is the videogame industry, its well known how risky it is. If your smart you have a backup plan. Yes, it is sad, bit the lucas arts i loved died years ago. Just A shame the last game from studio that brought us X-Wing was some cheesy kinect title. Btw, empire at war is one of the best strategy games I've ever played.

I don't think I ever played any of their games, but then again, not a Star Wars fan. I wish I'd played the legendary Tie Fighter and X Wing games back in the day though.

I can't believe you forgot
Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe I can't believe you left out BattleHawks 1942! But that was when it was still "Lucasfilm Games". Things went downhill after they became "Lucasarts".
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

It just annoys me that they "reduced risk" by not trying anything *new*. Narrowed their scope down to a single franchise and flogged it until it was completely bare and could be flogged no more. Then came the new owners, who decided to reduce risk further. A closed office doesn't have any risk.
Poor bastards. What's funny is the perception vs the reality. There have been in fact very few SW games released in the last several years. Force Unleashed was 2008, the sequel 2010. The last SW strategy game was 2006, Empire at War. The last SW Battlefront game (non PSP) was 2005. Ditto KOTOR2, the last RPG. The last FPS were Jedi Academy in 2003, and Republic Commando in 2005! There was Kinect Star Wars last year, but no one knows what to call that thing and no one remembers it. There were a couple of games based on the Clone Wars series, but nothing major other than 3rd entry of the Lego SW series, of which the previous titles finished in 2007. Besides, the Lego games are farmed out, not internal. In short, in the last 5 years, discounting the MMOs (which I always do because I don't consider them actual games and LA itself didn't make them anyway), there have been FOUR games, 2 of which were TFU games, 1 Lego, and 1 Xbox-exclusive. If that's anyone's idea of market saturation, then it goes to prove it's actually your perception of SW games period. Make it a shorter time period, such as "since Obama was elected in 2008" and it's down to 3 games. An entire administration and election cycle went by, and we got 3 games. Put another way, Eagle Dynamics has released more DCS modules in this time frame than LA made SW games. So is ED "flogging" the sim market? The Jedi Master

Don't think anyone has mentioned that one yet. Maybe it's because it came out in 1995. @ Jason - I think a lot of people would also love to buy a new KOTOR game assuming it has the same kind of polish to it as Skyrim.

When I had my Mac in the mid 90's I enjoyed Dark Forces. I thought it was a pretty good FPS game and one of the first few I had ever played.(behind Marathon and Wolf 3D). Don't think anyone has mentioned that one yet. There can't be many of us who remember playing Dark Forces on a mac. PowerPC 7200, iirc.

I'm not saying a cool KOTOR-like game would not be popular, but all my SW buddies want to do the trench run, not play with lightsabers. I think the 1st and 3rd person SW action game or shooter is a bit tired. I also don't think SW lends itself to good MMO games either, only because gamers want the freedom of a big universe and cool machines of SW as much as the adventure. Hard to give a gamer all that as evidenced by the MMOs so far for SW. Jason

That to me was always the puzzling thing. Not that LA was making so few SW games, because saturation is an obvious problem, but the ones it DID make didn't seem to be what the market wanted.
The 90s gave us 4 of those games, and the 21st century gave us ZERO. The closest thing was the Battlefront series with their spaceships, but that was clearly "Battlefield: SW" as far as how you played. Still, it was something, even if mere scraps.

The only game people want to really play in the SW universe is a new X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. I can't figure out why this hasn't been done again. Besides the lightsaber duels, the space combat was what everyone loved about Star Wars. I hope Disney figures this out.
Jason Totally agree. It doesn't make sense X-Wing etc. hasn't been recreated. Probably my all time favorite game.
I will ignore all ideas for new works and engines of war, the invention of which has reached its limits and for whose improvement I see no further hope.
