CloD online is synonymous of ATAG server (a full "switch" one), with average 30/40 players in work days, and up ~100 at weekends.

Try mimic BoB objetctives, like intercept (AI) bombers formations, attack at airfields... but basicaly is SpitII x Bf109-E/4N dogfight (not server fault, but players "Ace of Aces" behavior) and with typical online objetives, like sunk XX ships... to win the map. wink

At weekends are action in AAG server too, with more oriented "Battle of Britain" missions.

Eventually are some "fun" ("easy fly", WWV, externals...) servers with half dozen of players in tipical (in this kind of server) endeless Airquake...

Good online activity, but the only aircraft you see are the Spit II and 109E-4N.

Online is better than it was, but its still "mostly" low level dogfighting over the channel and 109s buzzing RAF bases, ATAG keep trying to pull the height up with AI bomber flights and stuff, but people are people and most dont link up and climb to anything like proper heights or in numbers. Its not ATAG fault though.

Its still very enjoyable and i have a good time, just very rare to see a spit above 12K or flights above 2 in number.

A few Spits here and there at 200m over France too, thats why in RL there was a chain of command...must be why coops was popular

I tried multiplayer the other day and couldn't figure out how to actually get into a plane, there was no 'fly' or 'connect' button.

One of these days I've got to RTFM.

There's a mixed bag of activity high and low. Since bomber groups spawn at 6Km alt - there tends to be escort and attack activity at 6 - 9 Km.

As stated, there are still a lot of "low flyers". A lot of these, are I think are newer pilots who have learned bad habits over the last few years or so, when the sim had the horrible mid altitude deficiency. A glance at pilot statistics shows that those guys flying these tree-wavetop-level excursions into England or France have the life expectancy commensurate with the practice.

I didn't fly CoD a lot at all because of the broken altitude. It ruined online play. Everything was down low. Now with actual contrails, sun glint and improved visibility - it makes it a lot more fun for me.

I keep seeing older pilots from Il-2 on the ATAG server, that I hadn't run into in years (they aren't on the deck btw). I hope that trend continues - but we will see. You'll find a lot of those pilots just barely under contrail height to reduce detectability.

The best thing I could say is that the server population seems to equal RoF now (I use both sims). Have to see how long that lasts....

The rotary could not re-circulate oil,so it had to dump it out onto the airframe. Castor oil, consequently, covered the entire aircraft after a short time. Even worse, atomized caster oil blew into the cockpit and impregnated the pilot. Pilots needed scarves to clean their goggles and faces. Since castor oil is a laxative, pilots suffered serious consequences after a few hours of flight. But such was the need for maximum power

The last week ive been flying on ATAG and ive never seen a allied aircraft above 12k, every sortie i fly i come over at 18000ft and fly a patrol from Dover to Hastings and never see a thing apart from a few 109s, get bored and start dropping down in height, 15000ft still nothing, 12000ft nothing...and on until ive dropped below 6000ft then maybe i might see a spit or two but its very rare.

If you fly lonewolf, as I do, you can expect to rarely see any aircraft, above, below, or at your altitude

At least that's been my experience with a handful of sorties

Look for the yellow text messages at the top of the screen announcing the "X Bombers need escort in 10mins at ALT X Location X" and go escort the bombers - where you'll meet opponents.

OR

Look for Red Text which are enemy aircraft locations in your vicinity.

These are good places to start - action happens everytime I fly. Some pilots actually escort the AI bomber missions and many pilots actually attack the bombers.

The AI actually do draw human particpants. I found this to be the case every time I've flown.

Sounds like you didn't select an airfield as your problem here, click one of the available airfields on the map...try try again

Scylla,

In this screen , on tab MAP, click on flag of your choince (British or German/Italy). Then notice that some airfield icon - a crosshair - turn to white.

Click in one of these airfield icon, they turn red.

Notice that screen change, list some players/AI and below a PLANE, click in the to see what plane(s) are available in that base, configure fuel (50% is sufficient for tipical "battle area), leadout, convergence, etc..., then hit OK.

Back to main screen click in CREATE (below plane picture) to spaw (start flying).

At end of fight/flight, back to first screen click in FLAG again an confirm "...leave this airplane"* and do this above procedure again to respaw.

* If you dont do this is considered plane abandon and score not correctly computed. This is consequence of "whishes" of COOP folks in UBIZOO during "Storm of War" denvelopment, that desire "pick any plane at any moment" after (COOP) mission starter... blush

This "FLY" button (bellow, right) in reality mean "return to fly" - for the case you momentarily leave game to adjust some config (video, keys...)

"Typical CloD". smile

Thanks for posting that, Sokol. salute

Reading the earlier posts, I can honestly say everybody here is right. The whole idea behind the ATAG server is that everyone can do as he pleases. We have very few rules. No deliberate team killing (accidental "friendly" kills happen on occasion, I'm talking about the calculated friendly kills). No swearing or abusive language on the chat (text) window or on the ATAG Teamspeak server. That's it.

Vulching is allowed. Shooting a plane with its wheels down is allowed. Shooting down a crippled aircraft is allowed. Want to sight see over Dover in a Tiger Moth? Go for it. Want to dogfight in Airquake style? Knock yourself out. You can NOT curse out another player for doing so over the chat or on ATAG TS. The ATAG server is a sandbox with all kinds of toys readily at hand.

Right now in most of our revolving missions we have almost all of the Clod aircraft available. The Spitfire 2a and Bf109 E4/N have the best overall performance above 20K feet. The Spitfire 1a 100 octane and Bf109 E3/E4 -B sans bomb racks have the best overall performance below 20K feet. The other model fighters have their historical strengths in other areas. A G.50 in the right hands can give an overconfident and unwary Spit 2a pilot a nasty surprise. The same can be said about the Hurricanes against their generally faster LW counterparts.

As many have noticed, the bombers of both sides now come over at more historically accurate altitudes, between 13 and 20 angels. These missions are very straightforward, there are more complex missions in the wings being optimized for 100+ players. There are specific objectives for both sides to achieve in order "to win the map". Playing these mission objectives is strictly optional, no one is obliged to participate, nor should anyone be pressured to play them. As Ohmie and Gunny have mentioned, there is an air war going on between 20 and 30 angels in tactical locations, while other combats are being fought much, much lower.

If I'm flying a Spitfire 1a 100 octane, my activity will be centered on defending the England-based targets. Otherwise, I'll be taking a full fuel load aloft in a Spitfire 2a to either prey on enemy bombers and their escort, or escorting RAF bombers across the Channel and back. If someone else decides to go on a cross-Channel low level Jabo mission, more power to him. Others may prefer the never-ending airquake dogfight over Dover/Hawkinge. Lots of times one develops into the other. As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters! biggrin

I'm just starting to play with this, trying to take off. I managed to get the engine on a hurri running and even get down the runway but I am having a hard time taking off. I would like to have an out side view. Is there a server that gives outside view?
