Out of curiosity I wanted to find out how to apply the GoldFX patch for LB1.
After lots of trials and error including setting up virtual XP in Win7 etc long story short:
Put glide2x.dll from DGvodoo in \windows or \windows\system32 in Windows XP.
Unpack goldfx.exe and copy content to \janes\lbgold.
Run \janes\lbgold\patch.exe (this is a 8-bit file, will not work in 64bit OS).
Done.

Or just grab the ready-made archive here copter

And this is as far as I've gotten so far.

Intro/briefing/outro videos are not working (black screen/skipped). LBwin.exe is crashing the moment I'm supposed to see the in-game cockpit. I'll post more when/if I see some progress in getting LBGold with 3DFX wrapper working in Win7 x64.

if you can get the lbgold version for dos try using the 0.74 build of SVN Daum dosbox - it has way more features than the normal dosbox and allows making config changes while in game and also has its own internal glide support and 3dfx emulation - i havent tried it for LBGOLD yet, i just run it in normal dosbox
the SVN Daum dosbox version though in my experience so far is that it is the absolute best running games and getting old games going

I have the original Janes Longbow and Janes Longbow Gold. LBGold is just LB+FPK in a 3 disc set already patched up to the latest version but without the 3DFX update (GoldFX).
I already have LBGold running solid in regular Dosbox .74 at 640x480. The GoldFX update makes the game Windows-only. Dos-version has no 3DFX support so need to get it running with a wrapper in Windows. Thanks for informing me about the Daum-release of Dosbox.
Maybe try Win95 inside Dosbox but I suspect that is going to be slow if it works at all.

There are several custom builds of DOSBox that include integrated 3DFX support.

P.S. Is it OK if I host those LB Gold 3DFX files as well?

I know, but as you took the time to put the actual package together, I thought it was good netiquette to ask first. smile

I recently tried LBGOld...Spent hours trying to run is in DosBox but no joy. It keeps asking for the LBGold CDs even using -label on DosBox. Tried the Windows version until I finally was able to get it working (don't remember everything I tried). I was so happy and wake up early the next day to continue testing it but the next day, it didn't worked again. After spending half a day, I finally got it working:
Install nGlide (not my favorite but was the only wrapper that got it working)
Install LGBold
Get the 3DFX oatch
set the compatibility mode to Windows 98
Run the patch

Hope this works...
biggrin

Check out:

You can run with 3dfx (e.g. training) BUT a bunch of things don't work (anything not training) correctly (get gfx glitches). I added a note about that to the pcgamingwiki.com

DosBox is the best bet it works great.
