Does anyone have a copy of the fix for the corrupted briefing and map screens or know where I can download a copy? I know you can download it from CombatSim.com, but at present they are not accepting new members. Thanks.

Hi Mark,

before anyone can help we will need to know which exe you are running, since screen corruption problems can be caused by a number of issues depending on the exe you are using...

cheers,

Pobs

The original fix from Max 188 site: NO ADJUSTED PITCH

Submitted by RAF_Dumoulin

1) Open Regedit by going to Start/Run/regedit
2) Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\VIDEO
3) Look for the name:
\Device\Video0
4) Look at the cooresponding Data value. It will look something like this:
\Registry\Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{52BE6E44-53E9-4A0B-AF3C-70A73F8AD1CE}\0000
5) Make note of the value in the brackets and the instance at the end of the line. You may want to print
out this branch (cntrl-p) to easily reference these values later. In this example it is:
{52BE6E44-53E9-4A0B-AF3C-70A73F8AD1CE}\0000
6) Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video
7) There may be several sub-categories. Select the one that matches the value in the brackets you noted
in step 5. In this example it is:
{52BE6E44-53E9-4A0B-AF3C-70A73F8AD1CE}
8) Select the instance you noted in step 5. In this example it is:
\0000
9) Right-click this same instance (\0000) and select New/DWORD Value. This will create a value called
"New Value #1".
10) Right click the "New Value #1" and rename it to

NoAdjustedPitch

11) Double-click the new NoAdjustedPitch and assign it a Hexadecimal value of 1.
13) Exit regedit and reboot.
14) The Briefing screens and maps should now be working properly.

AO's fix is OK for XP but it cannot be applied to Vista or later versions of Windows.
However, I find that The screens are fine when I use the d3d windower program.

Thanks all. So far that fix has not worked. I'm using Win7x64.

Here's the fix that permanently solved this problem for me.

1. Create a start.txt file using notepad or other text editor and paste the following text in to it:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w eaw.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

2. Place the start.txt file in your EAW directory, where game's .exe file resides.

3. Rename the start.txt to start.bat

4. ALWAYS start your EAW through start.bat

5. Menu screen corruption fixed (well, at least for me ;)). Enjoy!

Didn't work for me, caused an additional problem of flickering. Thanks anyways for trying.

Too bad frown You could also try this together with setting the compatibility mode to win XP, disabling desktop compositions & visual themes in eaw.exe's compatibility tab.

Which exe were you running before?
1.28D was an interim version. CJ switched the selection screen size from the old 640x480 to 1024x768. An accidental result was that the briefing screen problem was fixed, and we still do not know how. 1.28E and 1.28F were further developments of 1.28D.
