Hi there,
Been searching all morning for a great page someone made a couple of years ago that listed each plane in IL2 and what their best possible cornering speed was, just a well balanced number as a guide, without alot of worry about different altitudes.

It was perfect for someone like me, just to get a general idea of what speed I should be trying to maintain if I decide to enter into a turning fight with an enemy aircraft.

Anyone else remember that ?? If so can you tell me where to find it. Could have sworn it was on Dart's web page but I did not see it there.

Thanks !
Tracy

Aerial combat is about energy management, when in combat you need to fly your manouvers with max power and basically fly elegant curves/loops in the air and while doing this try loosing as little speed as possible. Avoid horizontal combat, always try to gain altitude advantage over your enemy. The best tactic is to always ensure altitude advantage (online 2-3000m at least), this will enable you to to put your enemy in a situation where he got two options:
1. climb after you and risk getting shoot down when he stalls out or you turn and attack
2. dive for the deck and try to escape
If you are below somebody then you should not try to climb but dive and make your opponent follow you and make him overspeed, when he realizes that he's too fast then he will pull up and you can follow him and gain altitude in a safe position behind him.
It can be a little bit like an aerial chess game where you can force your opponent to make proper decisions quick or die.
Sooner or later everybody makes a mistake. smile
When not in combat set throtle to 60-70% otherwise you overheat your engine.

I don't know that webside, you search for, but maybe Hardballs Aircraft Viewer is something for you. Its up to 4.09 patch only and misses some of the latest additions though (I wish he would update it):

Thanks for the quick replies. I will take a look at the Aircraft viewer, as that looks very interesting.
And thanks for the combat tips, although there are just some circumstances when a turning fight is my only option.

The page I was talking about was just a page listing the different aircraft and it had a couple of columns one of which was max turning rate. And then it had a speed for that aircraft listed. Honestly...no idea how accurate it was, and it was quite a few years ago so I am sure not all the aircraft now available were on it.

Just kind of got a bug up my rear to take a look at it again. It probably isn't even around anymore.

Thanks,
Tracy

Look up the il2compare app. It has exactly what you want.

The IL-2 compare current site doesn't seem to have all the data in their online chart anymore.
IL-2 Compare Homepage: http://www.flightsimtesting.com/IL2Compare.aspx

Here are all the IL-2 compare programs that we have in the Technical Data downloads area at M4T.

Here is a post at 1C by ACE-OF-ACES that has the IL-2 compare program for v4.11m.

If IL-2 compare is the program that you remember this post should make finding the version that you need all that much easier. smile

What is missing is the line to mark sustained turn.

If the data is still gotten by AI flight then you can beat it by a little down near accelerated stall through rudder use.

You can use corner speeds for Warbirds or Aces High. They will get you close.
