Bohemia has developed a reputation for having some terrible AI.

How is the AI looking in ArmA 3?

Can AI drivers navigate a straight road without weaving and banking around?

What about vehicle control?

Thank you

What do you mean a reputation for having a terrible AI, no other game out there even comes close to what the ARMA engine AI can do. Consider all the factors the AI needs to take into account in order for it to be life like without bring your computer to it's knees, two games that stick out are Crysis 3 and ID/Rage, these can be described as pinnacles of AI for mainstream shooters however every instant is very localized down to that specific corridor you are playing in which by the way has been play tested millions of time to produce consistent predictable results so it's not dynamic just smokes and mirrors. Not that arma does not have it's own tricks but what other game can you go anywhere and tell the AI to jump in a car, go 10 Miles south to a specific town - disembark and deploy.

It's not perfect but nothing else even comes close.

Gonna agree with the OP.

ARMA's AI has been pretty bad. Mainly because they don't listen immediately, making strategic assaults rather impossible, and they suck at finding cover.

Really curious if A3's Ai is an improvement.

Driving on a straight road is no problem whatsoever for my 4-vehicle convoy (all AI) moving at a fast pace, much faster than a convoy would normally travel with perfect spacing. Better than I've ever seen human players convoy at that speed, frankly.

When I brought the convoy into Agia Marina, a pretty complex little town, it was able to navigate through pretty well. Considerably better than in A2, where convoys had a bad habit of getting totally messed up on simple turns. Had a hang-up when the convoy was ordered to turn around in place, but they ultimately solved it and got turned around. You may think of Generation Kill...

But, compared to my experiences in A2, I would say the driving AI is a bit better -- or, alternatively/more likely, the maps are now better optimized for the AI, as BI has mentioned.

Arma's AI is quite sophisticated when not artificially limited by bad aiming/spread characteristics and its bad rap is largely from people looking for pop-up target enemies from other games, in my opinion.

If your AI are ignoring you or taking forever to move in Danger mode while playing in Arma 2, put them in a DELTA formation (or COMPACT COLUMN, I think, too). They'll keep up with you much easier and move when you want, for the most part. If you put them in danger mode, they'll also stay put when you want them to stop. Otherwise they kind of do their own thing.

Running ASR AI will help with the finding cover, too.

Nice to hear convoy movements are better. That always stuck out as one of the worst parts of the AI in previous games.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.
