As per default setting my mouse axes and wheel are used for panning and zooming in external views and to move the cursor and turn knobs in the cockpit view.

Additionally I'd like to set up a modifier+axes to control view pitch and yaw in the cockpit and modifier+wheel to zoom (that is: zoom, not shift along the z-axis).

I've tried to do this in the control section but the axes controls do not let me map the mouse for in-cockpit view, only keyboard buttons or stick buttons.

Is there a way to achieve this? Mods, scripts?

I posted this over at ED as well but my experience is that if you want to get something done you're better off here at SimHQ. A user there came up with ALT+C but that is not what I want because than I'd constantly have to toggle between mouse view mode and mouse point and click mode.

Buttons or axes?

Mouse X Y Z are special kinds of axes, relative and not absolute. Anything you can bind to a keyboard key or joystick button you can't program any kind of axis.

I know. That's why I'm looking for a workaround of some kind.

Example of what I want:

L.CTRL + X-axis movement > yaw
L.CTRL + Y-axis movement > pitch
L.CTRL + Mhweel up/down > zoom in/zoom out

This way I can keep using the mouse to point and click the buttons and switches in the cockpit and also quickly use it to look around and zoom in to my MFDs by holding L.CTRL down. Since I have my left hand continuously hovering above the left CTRL Win ALT segment, this would be so much faster and convenient than toggling from point and click mode to view mode and vice versa by using L.ALT + C.

That works, except you can't have mouselook (at all) at the same time cursor is up. What you might want to do is bind a mouse button to the "LAlt-C" command so you can quickly switch between the two.

i dont need both options at the same time, and your idea isnt bad at all tho i still would have to toggle instead of holding a button down. only problem is, it doesnt let me map a mouse button as alternative to alt+c, only keyboard buttons. but i guess i have to live with it then.

thanks for attempting to help me out.

There are profiler programs that can do something like action A on button press and action B on button release. That would accomplish a "while I'm holding it" behavior.
